Abstract

Abstract A distributed data processing system is provided comprising a plurality of processes (FIG. 9, a, b, x) which communicate with one another using messages. When a process is created or terminated anywhere in the system a notification message may be requested. Such requests may be made regarding different organizational levels of the system, for example the entire system, one node, or a group of related processes.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 93 words
In a distributed data processing system comprising a plurality of interconnected nodes (172, 176, FIG. 9), said system comprising a plurality of processes (a, b, x), said processes communicating with one another by means of messages, a method of providing a notification message when a process is created on one of said nodes, said method comprising the steps of: a) providing a process manager process (172) on said one node; b) providing a request to said process manager process to generate a notification message whenever a process is created on said one node.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 93 words
In a distributed data processing system comprising a plurality of interconnected nodes (172, 176, FIG. 9), said system comprising a plurality of processes (a, b, x), said processes communicating with one another by means of messages, a method of providing a notification message when a process is created on one of said nodes, said method comprising the steps of: a) providing a process manager process (172) on said one node; b) providing a request to said process manager process to generate a notification message whenever a process is created on said one node.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
The method of providing a notification message recited in claim 1, wherein said request designates a process with a particular name.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 32 words
The method of providing a notification message recited In claim 1, wherein said request originates from a plurality of nodes, and wherein said notification message Is transmitted to said plurality of nodes.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 70 words
The method of providing a notification message recited in claim 1, wherein said system comprises a plurality of nodes, wherein said request is generated by any process on one of said nodes and is retransmitted to said other nodes, wherein said notification message is transmitted to said one node from the node where the new process is created, and wherein said one node generates the reply to said requesting process.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 30 words
The method of providing a notification message recited in claim 1, wherein said request may be generated by any one or more of said plurality of processes in said system.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 93 words
In a distributed data processing system comprising a plurality on interconnected nodes (172, 176, FIG. 9), said system comprising a plurality of processes (a, b, x), said processes communicating with one another by means of messages, a method of providing a notification message when a process is terminated on one of said nodes, said method comprising the steps of: a) providing a process manager process (172) on said one node; b) providing a request to said process manager process to generate a notification message whenever a process is terminated on said one node.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 93 words
In a distributed data processing system comprising a plurality on interconnected nodes (172, 176, FIG. 9), said system comprising a plurality of processes (a, b, x), said processes communicating with one another by means of messages, a method of providing a notification message when a process is terminated on one of said nodes, said method comprising the steps of: a) providing a process manager process (172) on said one node; b) providing a request to said process manager process to generate a notification message whenever a process is terminated on said one node.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 18 words
The method of providing a notification message recited in claim 6, wherein said request designates a particular process.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 32 words
The method of providing a notification message recited in claim 6, wherein said request originates from a plurality of nodes, and wherein said notification message is transmitted to said plurality of nodes.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 54 words
The method of providing a notification message recited in claim 6, wherein said system comprises a plurality of nodes, wherein said request is generated by one of said nodes and is retransmitted to said other nodes, wherein said notification message is transmitted to said one node from the node where the process is terminated.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 30 words
The method of providing a notification message recited in claim 6, wherein said request may be generated by any one or more of said plurality of processes in said system.
