Abstract

Abstract A wheel speed control apparatus for controlling a braking force and/or a driving force to be transmitted to wheels for maintaining the difference between the peripheral speed of each of the wheels and a vehicle running speed or an inferred value thereof at such position of the wheels at a value approximating the optimum value. The apparatus comprises a normal control for detecting and controlling the increase or incipient increase of the difference over the absolute value on the basis of a differential value of the difference and difference or the rotational speed of the wheels, and an integrating control for detecting and controling the continuation for a certain period of slightly excessive tendency of the absolute value of the difference, by comparing with a predetermined threshold value one of values which is smaller than the value with which, when the differential value is zero, the normal control would determines the excessive difference only with the absolute value.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 167 words
A wheel speed control apparatus for controlling a braking force and/or a driving force to be transmitted to wheels for maintaining the difference between the speed of each of the wheels and a vehicle running speed or an inferred value thereof at such position of the wheels at a value approximating the optimum value, which apparatus comprises: a first control means (S, D, BC) for detecting and controlling the increase or incipient increase of the difference over the absolute value on the basis of a differential value of said difference and difference or the rotational speed of the wheels; and a second control means (S, SV, BCʹ) for detecting and controlling the continuation for a certain period of the slightly excessive tendency of the absolute value of said difference, by comparing with a predetermined threshold value one of values which is smaller than the value with which, when said differential value is zero, said first control means would determine the excessive difference only with the absolute value.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 167 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 45 words
The apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said second control means, when the period during which the absolute value of the difference exceeds a predetermined threshold value continues longer than a predetermined period, determines the excessive difference or a tendency of the excessive difference.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 62 words
The apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said second control means, when the period during which the absolute value of the difference exceeds a predetermined threshold value is longer by a predetermined time than the period during which the absolute value of the difference does not exceed the predetermined value, determines the excessive difference or a tendency of the excessive difference.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 44 words
The apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said second control means, when the value of the difference between the difference and the predetermined threshold value integrated with time exceeds a predetermined value, determines the excessive difference or a tendency of the excessive difference.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 60 words
The apparatus as claimed in Claim 2, wherein said second control means controls the braking force or the driving force for suppressing the difference only during the period in which the absolute value of the difference exceeds the threshold value as a result of the decision that the difference exhibits an excessive difference or a tendency of the excessive difference.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 68 words
The apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, wherein a target to be controlled is the difference between the speed of rotation of driven wheels and the vehicle running speed or the speed of rotation of non-driven wheels which has resulted from the excessive driving force of the driven wheels, and further comprising means for suppressing the excessive difference, said suppressing means being operable to apply a braking force.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 87 words
The apparatus as claimed in Claim 6, wherein said second control means controls the difference which is the sum of the difference between the speed of rotation of the driven wheels on one of the opposite sides of the vehicle and both of the speed of rotation of the non-driven wheels on such one side and the speed of rotation of the driven wheels on the other of the opposite sides of the vehicle, plus the speed of rotation of the non-driven wheels on such other side.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 111 words
The apparatus as claimed in Claim 6, wherein the second control means controls the difference between the value, which is regarded as zero if the difference between the speed of rotation of the driven wheels on one of the opposite sides of the vehicle and the speed of rotation of the non-driven wheels on such one of the opposite sides takes a negative value, and the value which is regarded as zero if the difference between the speed of rotation of the driven wheels on the other of the opposite sides and the speed of rotation of the non-driven wheels on such other of the opposite sides takes a negative value.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 72 words
The apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, wherein a target to be controlled is the difference between the speed of rotation of driven wheels and the vehicle running speed or the speed of rotation of non-driven wheels which has resulted from the excessive driving force of the driven wheels, and further comprising means for suppressing the excessive difference, said suppressing means being operable to suppress a driving force of a prime mover.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 54 words
The apparatus as claimed in Claim 9, wherein said difterence executes a control with the average value of differences between the speeds of rotation of the driven and non-driven wheels on one of the opposite sides of the vehicle and those on the other of the opposite sides or the inferred vehicle running speed.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 59 words
The apparatus as claimed in Claim 9, wherein said diference executes a control with one of differences between the speeds of rotation of the driven and non-driven wheels on one of the opposite sides of the vehicle and those on the other of the opposite sides or the inferred vehicle running speed which is smaller than the other differences.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 64 words
The apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, a target to be controlled is the difference between the speed of rotation of the wheels and the inferred or actual vehicle running speed which has resulted from the excessive braking force applied to each of the wheels, and further comprising means for suppressing the excessive difference, said suppressing means being operable to suppress the braking force.
