Abstract
Abstract A femoral neck hip prosthesis comprises a central stem (2,2ʹ) having a body (3) which can be inserted into the femoral bone, and a head (5) which can be inserted into the head of a femur. The body (3) has at least one recess (10,20) forming a seat for receiving one of a number of modular inserts (11,11ʹ) of different shapes and sizes by means of which a composite prosthesis which can be used as a right or a left femoral pin can be formed.

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim
96 words
A femoral neck hip prosthesis for a human hip, characterised in that it comprises a basic central stem (2,2ʹ) having a body (3) adapted to be inserted into the femoral bone, and a head (5) adapted to be inserted into the head of the femur, the body (3) having at least one recess (10) for receiving a modular insert (11,11ʹ), selected from one of a plurality thereof of different shapes and sizes, whereby to form a composite prosthesis in which the basic central stem is adapted for use as a right or a left femoral pin.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
38 words
A femoral neck hip prosthesis for a human hip, according to Claim 1, characterised in that the said central stem (2,2ʹ) is made of metallic material and the said modular inserts (11,11ʹ) are made of a ceramic material.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
45 words
A femoral neck hip prosthesis for a human hip, according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, characterised in that the modular inserts (11,11ʹ) are substantially U-shape in cross section, and the said recess (10) has a central limb shaped to receive such an insert (11,11ʹ).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
39 words
A femoral neck hip prosthesis for a human hip, according to any preceding Claim, characterised in that the central stem (2) has two lateral recesses (20) on opposite faces of the stem (2) for receiving separate modular inserts (11ʹ).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
33 words
A femoral neck hip prosthesis for a human hip, according to Claim 4, characterised in that each said lateral recess (20) has a dovetail cross section for mechanical coupling with a modular insert.
