Abstract
Abstract A peracid precursor characterised in that it corresponds to the following general formula: wherein R represents C 1 -C 20 alkyl, alkoxylated alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkylaryl or substituted aryl; R' and R" independently represent hydrogen, C 1 -C 20 alkyl, aryl, Ci-C 2 o alkylaryl, substituted aryl or wherein Ra represents C 1 -C 30 alkyl; and L represents a leaving group, is disclosed. A peracid characterised in that it corresponds to the following general formula: or wherein R, R, and R" are as defined above; or an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt thereof, is also disclosed. A bleaching composition which may comprise such a peracid precursor and a bleach-effective amount of a source of hydrogen peroxide is further disclosed. New, proficient and cost-effective compounds for fabric bleaching are provided.

A bleaching composition characterised in that it comprises: (a) a compound comprising the following grouping: wherein R, R' and R" are as defined above; and (b) a bleach effective amount of a source of hydrogen peroxide; such that from about 0.5 to 100 ppm A.O. is provided in aqueous medium: and, optionally, (c) an amount of buffer sufficient to give a pH of greater than 10 in aqueous medium.
