Abstract

Abstract The trocar is provided with a leaf spring (25) in the housing (13) whch abuts a collar (17) on a protective tube (16) which surrounds the sharp tip (15) of the stylet (14). A spring finger (26) extending from the leaf spring is actuated by a slider (28) when the two housings (13, 37) of the trocar components are squeezed together. The spring finger initially lifts the leaf spring from the collar to release the protective tube for sliding proximally while the collar subsequently lifts the spring finger from the shoulder of the slider to prevent a re-release of the leaf spring when the protective tube (16) is moved back into the extended position.

Claim 4
Dependent Claim 38 words
A trocar as set forth in claim 2 wherein said slider projects from said first housing against said second housing whereby squeezing of said housings together pushes said slider into said first housing to release said latch means.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 56 words
A trocar as set forth in claim 3 wherein said latch means includes a leaf spring abutting said tube in said extended position and a spring finger extending from said leaf spring into abutment with said slider for lifting said leaf spring from said tube in response to movement of said slider into said first housing.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 26 words
A trocar as set forth in claim 4 which further comprises a collar on said tube in abutment with said leaf spring in said extended position.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 37 words
A trocar as set forth in claim 5 wherein said collar is slidable along said leaf spring to lift and release said spring finger from said slider at an intermediate point of movement along said leaf spring.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 32 words
A trocar as set forth in claim 5 which further comprises a guide slot in said first housing and a guide pin secured to said collar and slidably mounted in said slot.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 21 words
A trocar as set forth in claim 3 which further comprises a spring biasing said slider outwardly of said first housing.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 41 words
A trocar as set forth in claim 2 which further comprises a seal ring in said housing having a main portion sealingly engaging said protective tube and an annular flap extending from said main portion and sealingly engaging said protective tube.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 56 words
A trocar as set forth in claim 1 wherein said latch means includes a leaf spring abutting said tube in said extended position and a spring finger extending from said leaf spring into abutment with said slider for lifting said leaf spring from said tube in response to movement of said slider into said first housing.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 47 words
In a trocar, the combination comprising a spring-biased tube movably mounted between an extended position and a retracted position; latch means for locking said tube in said extended position; and a slider for releasing said latch means to permit movement of said tube into said retracted position.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 47 words
In a trocar, the combination comprising a spring-biased tube movably mounted between an extended position and a retracted position; latch means for locking said tube in said extended position; and a slider for releasing said latch means to permit movement of said tube into said retracted position.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 56 words
The combination as set forth in claim 11 wherein said latch means includes a leaf spring abutting said tube in said extended position and a spring finger extending from said leaf spring into abutment with said slider for lifting said leaf spring from said tube in response to movement of said slider into said first housing.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 26 words
The combination as set forth in claim 12 which further comprises a collar on said tube in abutment with said leaf spring in said extended position.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 37 words
