Abstract An optical recording medium comprises at least one polymethine dye selected from the formulae [1-I] through [2-IV] and a compound selected from aminium salt compounds and diimonium salt compounds contained in the recording layer.

An optical recording medium, comprising at least one polymethine dye selected from the formulae [1-I] through [2-IV] shown below and, a compound selected from aminium salt compounds and diimonium salt compounds contained in the recording layer: wherein R₁₁, R₁₂, R₁₃, R₁₄, R₁₅, R₁₆, R₁₇, R₁₈ and R₁₉ each represent hydrogen atom, halogen atom, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, substituted or unsubstituted styryl group, or substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group, with proviso that at least one of R₁₁, R₁₂, R₁₃ and R₁₄ is a dialkylamino-substituted aryl group; m₁ is 0 or 1; n₁ is 0, 1 or 2; A, B, D and E each represent hydrogen atom, halogen atom, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, alkenyl group, substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl group, substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, with proviso that at least one of A, B, D and E is dialkylamino-substituted aryl group; R₂₁, R₂₂,R₂₃, R₂₄ and R₂₅ each represent hydrogen atom, halogen atom or alkyl group; m₂ and n₂ are each 0, 1 or 2; Y represents a divalent residue having a group of atoms necessary for the completion of a 5-membered or 6-membered ring; Z⊖ represents X⊖ represents an anion.
