A nematic liquid crystal composition

Claim 2

A nematic liquid crystal composition comprising at least two components at least one of which is a compound expressed by the formula wherein R₁ represents an alkyl group or an alkoxy group each of l to l0 carbon atoms, each independently represent a benzene ring or a cyclohexane ring and n represents an integer of 0 or l, said compound being contained in l0 to l00% by weight in said composition.

Claim 3

A nematic liquid crystal composition comprising as a first component [A], at least one member of compounds expressed by the formula wherein R₁ represents an alkyl group or an alkoxy group each of l to l0 carbon atoms, each independently represent a benzene ring or a cyclohexane ring and n represents an integer of 0 or l, said first component being contained in l0 to 80% by weight in said composition, and as a second component, at least one member of the following components [B], [C] and [D], these components being each singly contained in 5 to 50% by weight in said composition: said component [B] consisting of at least one member of compounds having a high dielectric anisotropy value of Δε≧ 5 wherein Δε represents a dielectric anisotropy value, except for said compounds of the formula (I), said component [C] consisting of at least one member of liquid crystal compounds having a low dielectric anisotropy value of |Δε| <5, and said component [D] consisting of at least one member of liquid crystal compounds having a clearing point higher than l00°C.

Claim 4

A nematic liquid crystal composition comprising as a first component [A], at least one member of compounds expressed by the formula wherein R₁ represents an alkyl group or an alkoxy group each of l to l0 carbon atoms, each independently represent a benzene ring or a cyclohexane ring and n represents an integer of 0 or l, said first component being contained in l0 to 80% by weight in said composition, and as a second component, at least one member of the following components [B], [C] and [D], these components being each singly contained in 5 to 50% by weight in said composition: said component [B] consisting of at least one member of compounds having a high dielectric anisotropy value of Δε≧ 5 wherein Δε represents a dielectric anisotropy value, except for said compounds of the formula (I), said component [C] consisting of at least one member of liquid crystal compounds having a low dielectric anisotropy value of |Δε| <5, and said component [D] consisting of at least one member of liquid crystal compounds having a clearing point higher than l00°C.

Claim 5

A nematic liquid crystal composition according to claim 2 wherein said component [B] comprises at least one member of compounds expressed by the formulas (Bl) to (B7) listed below, said component [C] comprises at least one member of compounds expressed by the formulas (Cl) to (Cll) listed below and said component [D] comprises at least one member of compounds expressed by the formulas (Dl) to (Dl0) listed below: wherein R₂ represents an alkyl group or an alkoxy group each of l to 8 carbon atoms, R₃ represents an alkyl group of l to 8 carbon atoms, R₄ represents an alkyl group or an alkoxy group each of l to l0 carbon atoms, R₅ represents an alkyl group of l to 8 carbon atoms and R₆ represents an alkyl group or an alkoxy group each of l to 8 carbon atoms.
