Abstract

Abstract A flat matrix display panel every side of which is connected with an end of a flexible wiring substrate having an LSI loaded thereon. The flexible wiring substrate is formed into an S shape in section by being folded along two upper and lower frames. The LSI is located around the center of the S-shaped substrate. The other end of the flexible wiring substrate is connected to a PC board on which other circuit components are mounted.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 48 words
A flat display panel comprising a flexible substrate with an LSI loaded thereon being mounted adjacent to the picture element region, said flexible substrate being folded along two upper and lower frames so that a part of said flexible substrate is positioned between said upper and lower frames.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 48 words
A flat display panel comprising a flexible substrate with an LSI loaded thereon being mounted adjacent to the picture element region, said flexible substrate being folded along two upper and lower frames so that a part of said flexible substrate is positioned between said upper and lower frames.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 38 words
The flat display panel of claim 1, wherein said flexible substrate is connected with a PC board which projects outward from said flexible substrate and wherein circuit components are mounted on the projected portion of said PC board.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 16 words
The flat display panel of claim 2, wherein said flexible substrate comprises a wide tape carrier.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 96 words
A display device comprising: a display panel (6) having a display area (5) and a connection area between an edge of said display area and an edge of the panel; and a substrate (2) which supports display drive circuitry (1) and which is connected to the display panel at said connection area, and projects outwardly from the panel edge characterised in that said substrate (2) is folded double along an outer fold formed outwardly of the panel edge so that a part (2a) of the substrate extends inwardly from the outer fold toward the display area.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 96 words
A display device comprising: a display panel (6) having a display area (5) and a connection area between an edge of said display area and an edge of the panel; and a substrate (2) which supports display drive circuitry (1) and which is connected to the display panel at said connection area, and projects outwardly from the panel edge characterised in that said substrate (2) is folded double along an outer fold formed outwardly of the panel edge so that a part (2a) of the substrate extends inwardly from the outer fold toward the display area.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 32 words
A display device according to claim 4 characterised in that said fold is formed round an outer edge of a first frame (3) disposed outwardly of said outer edge of the panel.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 43 words
A display device according to claim 5 characterised in that said part (2a) of the substrate (2) is disposed between a lower face of said first frame (3) and an upper face of a second frame (4) disposed beneath the first frame (3).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 53 words
A display device according to any of claims 4 to 6 characterised in that said substrate is further folded double along an inner fold formed inwardly of the outer fold so that another part (2c) of the substrate extends outwardly from the inner fold, the two folds forming a substantially S-shaped sectional profile.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 40 words
A display device according to claim 7 characterised in that said another part (2c) of said substrate is connected to a PC board (7) of which a part (7a) which lies outwardly of said outer fold carries further circuitry (8).
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 26 words
A display device according to any of claims 4 to 8 characterised in that said circuitry (1) is mounted on said part (2a) of said substrate.
