Abstract

Abstract Data processing of both the associative storage and the pattern recognition equipped with a segmentation function is made possible without being affected by the deformation or the deviation in position, wherein feedback signal paths are provided to be opposed to ordinary feedforward signal paths between the lower hierarchy and the upper hierarchy in a neuron network model. When a response output is obtained in the upper hierarchy, a signal is permitted to flow into the feedback signal path opposed to the feedforward signal path that has participated in the response, and a promoting action is given to a feedforward signal path that contributed to the response output in the upper hierarchy while a damping action is given to a feedforward signal paths that made no such contribution under the control of the feedback signal.

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 201 words
A hierarchical information processing system characterized in that, for successively processing over a plurality of cell-layers each inter-layers of which a plurality of afferent signal paths for transmitting information signals are provided respectively, a plurality of efferent signal paths extended from higher order cell-layers to lower order cell-layers are respectively provided each inter-layers of the plurality of cell-layers, so as to make pairs respectively with the plurality of afferent signal paths extended from lower order cell-layers to higher order cell-layers, once an output response has been derived from the higher order cell-layer belonging to the afferent signal path, an efferent signal being transmitted through the efferent signal path making the pair with the specified afferent signal path transmitting an afferent signal which corresponds to the output response, the transmission of the information signal through each of the plurality of afferent signal paths being controlled respectively in response to the efferent signal, and hence, as to the causation of the output response derived from the higher order cell-layer under the control in response to the efferent signal, contributive one of the plurality of afferent signal paths being affected by an excitatory effect, while not-contributive one thereof being affected by an inhibitory effect.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 201 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 75 words
A hierarchical information processing system as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that a feature-extracting cell from which an output is derived in response to a specified feature of the information signal and a feature-integrating cell from which another output is derived in response to the outputs derived from the plurality of feature-extracting cells in response to the same feature of the information signal respectively are individually provided on the plurality of afferent signal paths.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 54 words
A hierarchical information processing system as claimed in claim 2, characterized in that the excitatory effect and the inhibitory-effect are individually caused by controlling either one of a gain and an extent of applied inhibition of the feature-extracting cell and the feature-integrating cell on the afferent signal path in response to the efferent signal.
