Abstract

Abstract An IC (integrated circuit) card identification system (100) includes a comparator (26) for comparing a first identification number (PIN) entered by a card-holder with a second identification number (R-PIN), a storage memory (24) for storing at least the second identification number (R-PIN), a timer (25) for measuring a time lapse during a card-identifying operation, and a central controller (17) for controlling the timer (25) to set a first processing time period to be substantially equal to a second processing time period. During the first processing time period, the comparator (26) determines that the first identification number (PIN) is coincident with the second identification number (R-PIN) since the first identification number (PIN) has been entered. During the second processing time period, the comparator (26) determines that the first identification number (PIN) is incoincident with the second identification number (R-PIN) since the first identification number (PIN) has been entered.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 179 words
An IC (integrated circuit) card identification system (100) comprising: means (26) for comparing a first identification number (PIN) entered by a cardholder with a second identification number (R-PIN) previously stored in the 1C card to determine whether or not said first identification number (PIN) is coincident with said second identification number (R-PIN); storage means (24) for storing at least said second identification number (R-PIN); means (25) for measuring a time lapse during a card-identifying operation; and means (17) for controlling the time measuring means (25) to set a first processing time period to be substantially equal to a second processing time period, said first processing time period being defined by a first duration, after the cardholder enters the first identification number, during which said comparing means (26) determines that the first identification number (PIN) is coincident with the second identification number (R-PIN), and said second processing time period being defined by a second duration during which said comparing means (26) determines that the first identification number (PIN) entered by the cardholder is incoincident with the second identification number (R-PIN).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 179 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 53 words
A system (100) as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that said storage means (24) further stores retry numbers (RTN) at which the first identification number (PIN) has been re-entered by the cardholder when the comparing means (26) judges that the first identification number (PIN) is incoincident with the second identification number (R-PIN).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 20 words
A system (100) as claimed in claim 2, characterized in that said retry numbers are selected to be 5 (five).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
A system (100) as claimed in claim 1, characterized by further comprising means (12 1 13; 14) for previously storing initialization data, by which initialization of said IC card identification system (100) is accomplished.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 49 words
A system (100) as claimed in claim 1, characterized by further comprising: scrambling means (180) coupled to said storage means (24), for scrambling first addresses sent from said means (17) to produce second addresses different from the first addresses, said second addresses being sent to said storage means (24).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 76 words
A system (100) as claimed in claim 5, characterized in that said scrambling means (180) includes: latch means (182; 183) for latching said first addresses sent from said means (17) and delivering them in response to read/write commands; and a memory section (184) for storing said second addresses in relation to said first addresses and outputting said second addresses into said storage means (24) when said first addresses are transferred from the latch means (182; 183).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 19 words
A system (100) as claimed in claim 6, characterized in that said first and second addresses are 8-bit addresses.
