Abstract

Abstract In a method of forming a plurality of files on a recording medium (10) in recording a data block (F10) which is to be a recording unit, such as a file itself, a file pointer (D10) or a directory which is a storage zone intended for recording an unrecorded data block (F20) having pertinence to the first-mentioned data block is reserved in such a manner that the continuity or correlation between the respective files can be maintained, and the retrieval of the files is facilitated without re-writing of the record contents.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 16
Claim 1
Independent Claim 102 words
1 . A method of forming a tree-structure file system on a random access type recording medium (10); characterized by the steps of: providing a catalogue zone (11) on the recording medium ( 1 0) for forming file management data sets; writing in said catalogue zone (11) a root directory which is to be the parent of the tree-structure file system; and reserving in said catalogue zone (11) a storage area for storing one of said file management data sets for a first member of said root directory at the time that the root directory is written in said catalogue zone (11).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 102 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 13 words
A method according to claim 1 wherein said first member is a directory.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 13 words
A method according to claim 1 wherein said first member is a file.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 43 words
A method according to claim 1 wherein said reserving step comprises reserving in said catalogue zone (11) storage areas for storing file management data sets for a child directory of said root directory and a brother file of said root directory's child directory.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 22 words
A method according to any one of the preceding claims wherein said writable storage means (10) is a writable optical disc (10).
Claim 7
Independent Claim 137 words
A method of forming a tree-structure file system on a write-once random access type recording medium (10); characterized by the steps of: providing a catalogue zone (11) on the recording medium (10) for forming file management data sets; writing in said catalogue zone (11) a root directory which is to be the parent of the tree-structure file system and at that time reserving in said catalogue zone (11) storage areas for separately storing file management data sets for descendant members of said root directory; sequentially writing in said storage areas said root directory ' s descendant files and directories and at that time reserving in said catalogue zone (11) a plurality of secondary storage areas for storing separate ones of said file management data sets for the descendant files or directories of each said root directory's descendants.
Claim 8
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 105 words
7 . A method of forming a tree-structure file system on a write once random access type recording medium (10) : characterized by the steps of: providing a catalogue zone (11) on the recording medium (10); and writing in separate blocks in said catalogue zone (11) a hierarchy of directories and files, including file management data sets for each of said directories and files, said file management data sets including the serial numbers of as yet unrecorded blocks in said catalogue zone ( 11 ) for the brother and child files and directories of said directories and files being written in said catalogue zone (11).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 105 words
7 . A method of forming a tree-structure file system on a write once random access type recording medium (10) : characterized by the steps of: providing a catalogue zone (11) on the recording medium (10); and writing in separate blocks in said catalogue zone (11) a hierarchy of directories and files, including file management data sets for each of said directories and files, said file management data sets including the serial numbers of as yet unrecorded blocks in said catalogue zone ( 11 ) for the brother and child files and directories of said directories and files being written in said catalogue zone (11).
Claim 11
Independent Claim 31 words
A method according to any one of claims 3, 6 and 7 further comprising the step of forming a data zone (15) for storing document data on said recording medium (10).
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 20 words
A method according to claim 9 further comprising the step of recording data for said file in said data zone.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 48 words
10 . A method according to any one of claims 1, 6 and 7 further comprising the steps of forming a delete zone (14), forming a status zone (13), and forming a super block (12) for writing disc identification data sets and a head address of each zone.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 25 words
11 . A method according to claim 7 further comprising the steps of writing into said unrecorded blocks said brother and child files and directories.
Claim 15
Independent Claim 66 words
A method of forming a file system on a write once random access type recording medium (10); characterized by the steps of: forming on said medium (10) a plurality of data blocks for storing related data; recording data in said data blocks and recording in each data block at that time the location of the next data block in which related data is to be written.
Claim 16
Independent Claim 66 words
A method of forming a file system on a write once random access type recording medium (10); characterized by the steps of: forming on said medium (10) a plurality of data blocks for storing related data; recording data in said data blocks and recording in each data block at that time the location of the next data block in which related data is to be written.
