Abstract

Abstract Alkaline earth metal aluminofluorosilicate glasses suitable for use as ion-sources in the poly(carboxylic acid) cement compositions contain strontium in order to provide radiopacity. The invention also provides methods for making poly(carboxylate) cement using the glasses of the invention as ion-sources.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 16
Claim 1
Independent Claim 32 words
An alkaline earth metal aluminofluorosilicate glass, suitable for use as an ion-source in a poly(carboxylic acid) cement composition, in which at least a part of the alkaline earth metal component is strontium.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 32 words
An alkaline earth metal aluminofluorosilicate glass, suitable for use as an ion-source in a poly(carboxylic acid) cement composition, in which at least a part of the alkaline earth metal component is strontium.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 19 words
A glass as claimed in claim 1 containing from 5 to 35% by weight of strontium (calculated as SrO).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 23 words
A glass as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 which is a strontium aluminofluorosilicate glass substantially free of other alkaline earth metals.
Claim 5
Independent Claim 35 words
A method of producing a cross-linked poly(carboxylate) cement which comprises reacting a glass as claimed in any one of the preceding claims with a polymer containing free carboxyl groups and in the presence of water.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 24 words
A method as claimed in claim 4 in which the polymer containing free carboxyl groups is a homo polymer or copolymer of acrylic acid.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 22 words
A radiopaque composition comprising a polymerized resinous material containing a glass as claimed in any one of claims 1-3 as a filler.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 22 words
A composition as claimed in claim 6 in which the polymerized resinous material is a polymer of one or more acrylate monomers.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 18 words
A composition as claimed in claim 11 or claim 12 which is used as a dental restorative material.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 9 words
A resinous structure comprising strontium as a radiopacifying agent.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 9 words
A resinous structure comprising strontium as a radiopacifying agent.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 15 words
A structure as claimed in claim 9 in which strontium is the principal radiopacifying agent.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 16 words
A structure as claimed in claim 10 in which strontium is substantially the only radiopacifying agent.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 25 words
A structure as claimed in any one of claims 9-11 in which the source of strontium also serves as an ion-source to set the structure.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 32 words
A structure as claimed in any one of claims 9-12 having a radiopacity of at least 1 mm aluminum per mm of structure, preferably at 1.5 mm aluminum per mm of structure.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 16 words
A structure as claimed in any one of claims 9-13 used as a dental restorative material.
