Abstract

Abstract An equipment enclosure comprises a frame (10) together with a top panel (22), two side panels (16) and front (58) and rear (60) panels together with front base (40) and rear base panels(44). The side panels (16) are held using studs (18) in recesses (20) in the frame (10). The top cover (22) rests on a top face (24) of the frame (10) initially by gravity and engages the studs (18) to position the side panels (16) relative to the frame (10). Front (58) and rear (60) panels are then affixed respectively to a front edge (54) and a rear edge (56) of the top panel and affixed at their respective lower ends (76) using the front base panel (40) and the rear base panel (44). The tolerances are such that outside dimensions of the enclosure are entirely defined by the mutual engagement between the panels (58, 60, 40, 44, 16, 22) and the frame (10) can occupy a range of positions within the completed enclosure. Each panel (16,22,58,60) is coated with a conducting layer (73,75,39) electrically connected to the frame (10) by conducting gaskets (78,80,74) providing electro-magnetic shielding. Tip portions (70,72,28,48) to the panels (22,16,58,60) provide labyrinthine paths between all points at the same electrical potential as the frame (10) and the panels themselves are made of insulating material thus preventing electrostatic discharge.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim 138 words
An equipment enclosure comprising: an electrically conductive frame having first and second faces in abutment along a common edge; a firstpanel on said first face having an electrically conducting inner surface electrically connected to said frame and an electrically insulating outer surface; a second panel on said second face having an electrically conducting inner surface electrically connected to said frame and an electrically insulating outer surface; a tip portion on said first panel proximate to said common edge; and a tip portion on said second panel proximate to said common edge; where said tip portion of said first panel and said tip portion of said second panel co-operate to provide an extended labyrinthine path over insulating material between those portions of said enclosure electrically at the same potential as said frame and said outer surfaces of said panels.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 138 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 36 words
An enclosure according to Claim 1 wherein said labyrinthine path presents no straight line path between any part of said enclosure at said same electrical potential as said frame and any point exterior to said enclosure.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 24 words
An enclosure according to Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein said electrically conducting inner surface of said first panel comprises an electrically conductive coating.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 46 words
An enclosure according to any of the preceding Claims comprising an electrically conductive support gasket between said first inner surface of said first panel and said frame, said electrically conductive support gasket providing electrical connection between said inner surface of said first panel and said frame.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 79 words
An enclosure according to any of the preceding Claims wherein said inner surface of said first panel and said inner surface of said second panel each stop short of said common edge to leave an exposed region of said frame; wherein said tip portion of said first panel is an electrically insulating shield over said exposed region; and wherein said tip portion of said second panel is an electrically insulating shield over said tip portion of said first panel.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 52 words
An enclosure according to any of Claims 1 to 4 wherein said inner surface of said first panel and said inner surface of said first panel are electrically joined by an electrically conductive sealing gasket held between said tip portion of said first panel and said tip portion of said second panel.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 66 words
An enclosure according to any of Claims 1 to 4, or according to Claim 6 wherein said tip portion of said first panel comprises a first staircase structure; wherein said tip portion of said second panel comprises a second staircase structure of complementary outline to that of said first staircase structure, and where said first and second staircase structures come together to form said labyrinthine path.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 25 words
An enclosure according to Claim 7 wherein said first and second staircase structures are further co-operative to support said first panel on said second panel.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 19 words
An enclosure according to any of the preceding Claims wherein said first panel is a glass reinforced polyester panel.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 32 words
An enclosure according to Claim 4, or according to any of Claims 5 to 9 when dependent upon Claim 4, wherein said support gasket is a carbon loaded rubber or elastomer gasket.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 32 words
An enclosure according to Claim 6, or according to any of Claims 7 to 10 when dependent upon Claim 6 wherein said sealing gasket is a carbon loaded rubber or elastomer gasket.
