Abstract

Abstract An improved therapeutic belt which is peculiarly adapted for the sacro-lumbar region of the body is disclosed. The belt appliance, in essence, is comprised of an elongated support surface formed from material that is bendable when subjected to forces encountered thereby; a flexible cover disposed on said support surface secured thereto along its edges, thereby forming an envelope; a source of fluid; a means introducing said fluid into said envelope for inflating and retaining said fluid, causing said surface to bend to assume a predetermined curvature, which is preferably in the shape of a crescent; and a means removably securing the free ends of said support surface.

Independent Claim 101 words
A therapeutic belt-type appliance suitable for treating the sacro-lumbar region of a person's body, comprising: belt means, having inside and outside surfaces, for securing said therapeutic appliance about said torso portion of said person's body; a semi-rigid support surface secured to said inside surface of said belt means within the rear section thereof so as to be disposed within and conform to the sacro-lumbar region of said person's body; inflatable bladder means, secured to said sem-rigid support surface, for applying pressurized forces to said sacrolumbar region of said person's body; and inflatable cells within said inflatable bladder consisting of serrated envelopes.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 101 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
The therapeutic belt-type appliance of Claim 1 further comprising padding means covering said inflatable bladder means and liner means for covering said paddng means.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 32 words
The therapeutic belt-type appliance of Claim wherein the bladder is contoured and narrowed in width along its ends or is crescent shaped to avoid the hip and rib area of the user.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 24 words
The therapeutic belt-type appliance of Claim 1 wherein the surface bends to assume a predetermined curvature in the shape of a crescent when inflated.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 29 words
The therapeutic belt-type appliance of Claim 2 wherein the support surface, inflatable bladder, and padding element are enveloped in said liner material so as to form a module unit.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 55 words
A therapeutic belt comprising inflatable air cells attached to a semi-rigid backing, said backing and air cells tapered so as to substantially conform to the sacro-lumbar region of a person's body, said cells consist of inflatable serrated envelopes positioned along said backing so that said backing forms a crescent shape when said envelopes are inflated.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 55 words
A therapeutic belt comprising inflatable air cells attached to a semi-rigid backing, said backing and air cells tapered so as to substantially conform to the sacro-lumbar region of a person's body, said cells consist of inflatable serrated envelopes positioned along said backing so that said backing forms a crescent shape when said envelopes are inflated.
