Cam shaft for actuating the valve tappets in internal combustion machines
Abstract
The camshaft for actuating valve lifters in internal combustion engines is formed from separately manufactured parts, namely the shaft (1) from a cold drawn tube and the cam (2). Both parts are connected to each other via a tolerance ring (6), which is slit lengthways. The bore (3) of the cam (2) has an inward projection (8) with essentially radially extending flanks (4) and a partial cylindrical surface (5) with a curvature corresponding to the radius of curvature of the wave profile. The edges (7) delimiting the longitudinal slot of the tolerance ring (6) are supported on the flanks (4) of the projection (8). This circumferential support of the spring ring (6) ensures that the cam (2) is held securely on the shaft (1). In addition, the projection (8) lies in the angular range (ϕ E ) of the cam (2) in which the cam rotating during operation comes into positive connection with the tappet to be actuated by it, on the cam (2) the highest radial force ( P) acts during a full rotation, so that the cam (2) is additionally supported against the shaft (1) via this surface (5) of the projection (8).
