Abstract Liquid crystalline, halogen-containing heterocyclic compounds, useful in liquid crystal composition have the formula: in which R₁ and R₂ and each represent a C₂-C₁₈ alkyl group, X is -N= or =CH=; Y is F or Cℓ; n is 0 or an integer of l to l0; and the symbol* indicates an asymmetric carbon atom.
