Abstract

Abstract The resonator has an output coupler (2) represented by a pair of mirrors (9),(10) separated by an appropriate distance and with facing reflecting surfaces of differing curvature. The distance between the surfaces (D')(D'') and their curvatures (R'),(R'') are such as to dephase the laser rays reflected by the second mirror in a different manner at the centre and at the periphery of the coupler in relation to those reflected by the first mirror.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 83 words
Unstable laser resonator comprising a mirror at one end and a beam output coupler at the other end characterized in that said output coupler comprises a first mirror element arranged toward the interior of the resonating cavity and a second mirror element arranged toward the exterior of the resonating cavity said mirror elements displaying facing reflecting surfaces so formed and placed at a distance such that they describe a reflectivity curve radially variable from the centre to the periphery of the output coupler.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 83 words
Unstable laser resonator comprising a mirror at one end and a beam output coupler at the other end characterized in that said output coupler comprises a first mirror element arranged toward the interior of the resonating cavity and a second mirror element arranged toward the exterior of the resonating cavity said mirror elements displaying facing reflecting surfaces so formed and placed at a distance such that they describe a reflectivity curve radially variable from the centre to the periphery of the output coupler.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 59 words
Resonator in accordance with claim 1 characterized in that the distance and curvature of said reflecting surfaces are selected in such a manner as to dephase the rays reflected from said second mirror element in relation to those reflected from the first by a whole number of periods at the centre and by a further half-period at the periphery.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
Resonator in accordance with claim 1 characterized in that said reflecting surface of the first mirror element is plane and that of said second mirror element is convex.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 21 words
Resonator in accordance with claim 1 characterized in that said reflecting surfaces of the first and second mirror elements are curved.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 13 words
Resonator in accordance with claim 1 characterized in that said mirror is convex.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 45 words
Resonator in accordance with claim 2 charac terized in that the distance at the centre between said reflecting surfaces is given by Dʹ = (2+1) where n is a whole number while said distance at the periphery is given by Dʺ = Dʹ + .
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 34 words
Resonator in accordance with claim 3 characterized in that the radius of curvature of the reflecting surface of said second mirror element is given by where d is the diameter of the laser beam.
