Abstract

Abstract An improved liquid crystal device immune to contamination of the liquid crystal is shown. The liquid crystal (4) is isolated from ion sources such as glass substrates (1,1'), transparent electrodes (2,2') or so on by means of a nitride layer (3,3') positioned therebetween.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 15
Claim 1
Independent Claim 44 words
A liquid crystal device comprising: an air tight room of which at least one side is made transparent; an amount of liquid crystal confined in said space; and a blocking film immune to ion drift covering on the inside of said air tight room.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 44 words
A liquid crystal device comprising: an air tight room of which at least one side is made transparent; an amount of liquid crystal confined in said space; and a blocking film immune to ion drift covering on the inside of said air tight room.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 16 words
A device of claim 1 wherein said structure is composed of a pair of glass substrates.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 15 words
A device of claim 2 wherein said bloking film is formed on said glass substrate.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 11 words
A devicd of claim 1 wherein said substrates are made transparent.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 25 words
A device of claim 4 further comprises a transparent electrode formed on the inside of said transparent substrate, said blocking film covering the transparent electrode.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 13 words
A device of claim 4 wherein said blocking film is made of nitride.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 24 words
A device of claim 6 wherein said nitride is silicon nitride, alminium nitride, boron nitride, magnesium nitride, tin nitride, antimony nitride or indium nitride.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 14 words
A device of claim 1 wherein said liquid crystal is a smectic liquid crystal.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 56 words
A liquid crystal device manufacturing method comprising: a step of covering the inside wall of an air tight space of the device with a blocking layer immune to ion drift; and a step of filing said space with an amount of liquid crystal at a high temperature at which said liquid crystal has a low viscousity.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 56 words
A liquid crystal device manufacturing method comprising: a step of covering the inside wall of an air tight space of the device with a blocking layer immune to ion drift; and a step of filing said space with an amount of liquid crystal at a high temperature at which said liquid crystal has a low viscousity.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 71 words
A method of claim 9 wherein said filing step is carried out by preparing an access to the inside of said space, dipping said access into an amount of said liquid crystal under vaccum, lowering the viscousity of said liquid crystal at said high temperature and increasing the environmental pressure to cause said liquid crystal to be injected into said space by the differential pressure between said environment and said space.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 45 words
A liquid crystal device manufacturing method comprising: a step of preparing a pair of substrates: a step of placing an amount of liquid crystal on one of said substrates; a step of mating the said substrate with the counterpart said substrate at a high temperature.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 45 words
A liquid crystal device manufacturing method comprising: a step of preparing a pair of substrates: a step of placing an amount of liquid crystal on one of said substrates; a step of mating the said substrate with the counterpart said substrate at a high temperature.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 27 words
A method of claim 11 wherein said liquid crystal is of smectic C phase at room temperature and is of smectic A phase at said high temperature.
