Abstract

Abstract A round baler comprising a bale chamber (3) in which crop material is formed into a bale (12), crop material pick-up means (1) operable to deliver crop material to the bale chamber (3), means for wrapping a formed bale with sheet material (15) comprising feed means (16, 17, 18) operable to feed the sheet material (15) so that it can engage the formed bale (12) and be wrapped therearound, and means (32) operable to sever the sheet material (15) when the formed bale (12) has been wrapped with a predetermined length thereof. Means (49) are disposed between the feed means (16, 17, 18) and the formed bale (12) for applying the sheet material (15) in a predtermined width to the formed bale (12).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim 126 words
A round baler comprising a bale chamber (3) in which crop material is formed into a bale (12), crop material pick-up means (1) operable to deliver crop material to the bale chamber (3), means for wrapping a formed bale with sheet material (15) comprising feed means (16, 17, 18) operable to feed the sheet material (15) so that it can engage the formed bale (12) and be wrapped therearound, and means (32) operable to sever the sheet material (15) when the formed bale (12) has been wrapped with a predetermined length thereof, characterised in that means (49) are disposed between the feed means (16, 17, 18) and the formed bale (12) for applying the sheet material (15) in a predetermined width to the formed bale (12).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 126 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 28 words
A baler according to claim 1, characterized in that the material applying means comprise a roll (49) provided with oppositely directed augering means (51) at its respective ends.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
A baler according to claim 2, characterized in that the augering means are in the form of flights (51) wound on the respective ends of the roll (49).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 20 words
A baler according to claim 3, characterized in that the flights (51) are formed from wire of generally circular cross-section.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 29 words
A baler according to claim 2, characterized in that the augering means (51) are in the form of spiral grooves provided in the respective ends of the roll (49).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 20 words
A baler according to any of the claims 2 to 5, characterized in that the roll 49 is freely rotatable.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 19 words
A baler according to any of the claims 2 to 5, characterized in that the roll (49) is driven.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 19 words
A baler according to any of the claims 2 to 5, characterized in that the roll (49) is non-rotatable.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 32 words
A baler according to claim 1, characterized in that the material applying means are in the form of a shaped member with oppositely directed sheet material directing means at its respectie ends.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 38 words
A baler according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that the material applying means (49) comprise stop means (50) at the opposite ends thereof for preventing spreading of the sheet material (15) beyond a predetermined width.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 65 words
A baler according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that the material applying means (49) are mounted for movement between an operative position in which they are located in a throat (2) of the bale chamber (3) through which crop material is fed by the pick-up means (1) and a retracted, inoperative position in which they are disposed clear of the throat (2).
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 79 words
A baler according to claim 11, characterized in that the severing means are in the form of a knife (32) movable between an operative position in which they cross the path of the sheet material (15) to cut the same and a retracted, inoperative position; the severing means (32) and the material applying means (49) being inter-related such that when the severing means (32) are retracted, the material applying means (49) are in the operative position and vice versa.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 75 words
A baler according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that the feed means comprise a plurality of feed rolls (16, 17, 18) which are driven to effect initial feeding of the sheet material (15) for wrapping a completed bale (12) and then disengaged from the drive means (21, 22, 24) so as to allow free rotation when the sheet material (15) has engaged the formed bale (12) and is pulled by the latter.
