Abstract

Abstract A user interactive computer graphic display is disclosed in which the user can generate three dimensional perspective projections of graphics objects. The user can specify the location of the vanishing point of the perspective projection before or after the generation of the graphics objects on the display. Moreover, the vanishing point can be moved by the user resulting in the simultaneous changing of the perspective projection of the graphics objects so that the most pleasing three dimensional display can be achieved. The user may specify a length of the projection lines which defines the depth of the three dimensional projection, or the user can accept a default depth. The entire editing set available for editing two dimensional graphics objects is available for editing the perspective projection of the graphics objects.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 63 words
A method of generating a three dimensional perspective projection of graphics objects on a computer controlled display comprising the steps of : defining a vanishing point within a three dimensional graphic space displayed by said computer controlled display; and generating projection lines having a predetermined length from selected points on graphics objects within said three dimensional graphic space directed toward said vanishing point.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 63 words
A method of generating a three dimensional perspective projection of graphics objects on a computer controlled display comprising the steps of : defining a vanishing point within a three dimensional graphic space displayed by said computer controlled display; and generating projection lines having a predetermined length from selected points on graphics objects within said three dimensional graphic space directed toward said vanishing point.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 47 words
The method of generating a three dimensional perspective projection of graphics objects as recited in Claim 1 wherein the predetermined length of said projection lines is a default length and further comprising the step of specifying a length of said projection lines different from said default length.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 51 words
The method of generating a three dimensional perspective projection of graphics objects as recited in Claim 1 wherein the position of the vanishing point within said three dimensional space is a default position and further comprising the step of specifying a position of the vanishing point different from said default position.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 57 words
The method of generating a three dimensional perspective projection of graphics objects as recited in Claim 1 wherein said graphics objects are originally generated within a two dimensional graphic space displayed by said computer controlled display and further comprising the step of translating the two dimensional graphics objects th three dimensional graphics objects using said vanishing point.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 58 words
The method of generating a three dimensional perspective projection of graphics objects as recited in Claim 1 further comprising the steps of moving said vanishing point within said three dimensional graphic space and simultaneously changing the perspective projection of the graphics objects within the three dimensional graphic space as a function of the location of said vanishing point.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 68 words
The method of generating a three dimensional perspective projection of graphics objects as recited in Claim 5 further comprising the steps of : checking the graphics objects for an opaque attribute; and removing those projection lines which are hidden by their own projection or surfaces of said graphics objects defined by the projection of other lines from the graphics objects for those graphics objects having an opaque attribute.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 72 words
The method of generating a three dimensional perspective projection of graphics objects as recited in Claim 1 wherein there is provided an editing set for editing graphics objects within a two dimensional graphic space further comprising the step of editing the three dimensional perspective projections of said graphics objects with the same editing set available for editing graphics objects generated within a two dimensional graphic space displayed by said computer controlled display.
