Abstract

Abstract A surface coil (13) used as a measuring coil in a magnetic resonance apparatus is divided into at least two coil parts (50 and 52) having opposite directions of winding and enclosing two identical surface areas. An induction current generated in a coil part by a transmission field is then always compensated for by a current generated in the other coil part. When one or more of such butterfly coils are used no circuits to block interfering signals need be built into the electronic measuring circuit and the transmission field is not disturbed by the measuring coil

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 62 words
A magnetic resonance apparatus with a magnet for the generation of a stationary magnetic field, an RF transmission coil, an RF measuring coil in the form of a surface coil and electronic switching circuits for RF excitation and RF detection, IN WHICH the measuring coil has such a geometry that electromagnetic coupling between the transmission coil and the measuring coil is avoided.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 62 words
A magnetic resonance apparatus with a magnet for the generation of a stationary magnetic field, an RF transmission coil, an RF measuring coil in the form of a surface coil and electronic switching circuits for RF excitation and RF detection, IN WHICH the measuring coil has such a geometry that electromagnetic coupling between the transmission coil and the measuring coil is avoided.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 37 words
A magnetic resonance apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, IN WHICH the measuring coil comprises two part coils situated in a flat plane with windings orientated in opposite directions to each other and enclosing equal surface areas.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 75 words
A magnetic resonance apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, IN WHICH the measuring coil comprises more than two part coils located in the same plane, the sum of the surface areas of a first set of part coils is equal to the sum of surface areas of the second set of part coils and the common coil at any rate has an axis of symmetry which divides the total surface area into two equal parts.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
A magnetic resonance apparatus as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, IN WHICH a substantially rectangular total coil surface is divided diagonally into two equal constituent surface areas.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 33 words
A magnetic resonance apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, IN WHICH the measuring coil comprises two constituent coils located a consistent distance from each other measured along a perpendicular to the coil surface.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 39 words
A magnetic resonance apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, IN WHICH two identical parts of the surface area of the coil separated by an axis of symmetry form a roof shape with the axis of symmetry as the ridge.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 50 words
A magnetic resonance apparatus as claimed in any of the preceding Claims, IN WHICH a measuring coil is orientated in it in such a way that its axis of symmetry or one of its axes of symmetry is located in a plane transverse to the direction of the transmission field.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 47 words
A magnetic resonance apparatus as claimed in any of the preceding Claims, IN WHICH the measuring coil comprises two or more surface coils which are fitted in such a way that an optimum resonance sum signal is generated in it from an examination space enclosed by it.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 27 words
A magnetic resonance apparatus as claimed in Claim 8, IN WHICH the surface coils as seen from the direction of the transmission field form a regular polygon.
