Multiplex component for an optical netwoork with a monomode transmission fibre
Abstract
A wavelength division multiplexing component for an optical broadband ISDN network with single-mode transmission fibers is described. An uncomplicated component for bidirectional optical wavelength division multiplex transmission is to be specified. The component consists of a rod lens (5), a wavelength-selective filter (6) applied flatly on the front end face (51) of the rod lens (5) and a plug body (10) surrounding the rod lens (5) and the filter (6) . A monomode and a multimode optical waveguide (7 or 8) are also held in the plug body and are butt-coupled to the rear end face (52) of the rod lens (5). The single-mode optical waveguide (7) is aligned with the optical axis (A) of the rod lens (5). The front end face (51) of the rod lens (5) is slightly inclined to the axis (A) and the multimode optical fiber (8) runs parallel to the single-mode optical fiber (7). The component requires little manufacturing effort, is not sensitive to adjustment during installation and can be retrofitted in optical fiber lines without wavelength division multiplexing.
