Abstract

Abstract A hollow air-cushion shoe sole component, which may be inflatable, is manufactured by first blow forming an envelope of synthetic plastics material, then pressing the envelope between mould halves (10,11) and finally inflating the envelope whilst between the mould halves by an air needle or the like to force the envelope to assume the shape of the moulds. A plurality of rods (101,111) may be provided to improve the structural rigidity of the resulting air cushion component.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 17
Claim 1
Independent Claim 54 words
A method for manufacturing a shoe sole component having an air cushion characterized by: a) blowing a tubular enclosure of synthetic plastics material; b) pressing the enclosure between two mould halves (10,11); and c) inflating the enclosure whilst between the mould halves to force it into contact with the interior walls of the mould.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 54 words
A method for manufacturing a shoe sole component having an air cushion characterized by: a) blowing a tubular enclosure of synthetic plastics material; b) pressing the enclosure between two mould halves (10,11); and c) inflating the enclosure whilst between the mould halves to force it into contact with the interior walls of the mould.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
A method according to claim 1 in which at least one inflation valve is provided in a lateral edge of the sole.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 32 words
A method according to claim 1 or 2 in which at least one mould half is provided with a plurality of projections having side surfaces perpendicular to the plane of the sole.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 20 words
A method according to claim 3 in which each mould half has a plurality of said projections at corresponding locations.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 18 words
A method according to claim 4 wherein said projections are formed by a plurality of short rods (101,111).
Claim 7
Independent Claim 28 words
A method according to any one of the preceding claims in which an elastomeric insert is provided in one mould half, and is adhered to the polyurethane enclosure.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 23 words
A method according to any one of the preceding claims in which one mould half comprises a shoe mould with a surrounding upper.
Claim 9
Independent Claim 18 words
A method according to any one of the preceding claims in which said synthetic plastics material is polyurethane.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 34 words
A shoe sole comprising an upper layer and a lower layer enclosing at least one hollow chamber and a plurality of wall segments extending substantially perpendicularly between the upper layer and the lower layer.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 34 words
A shoe sole comprising an upper layer and a lower layer enclosing at least one hollow chamber and a plurality of wall segments extending substantially perpendicularly between the upper layer and the lower layer.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 16 words
A shoe sole according to claim 9 wherein a plurality of closed inflatable chambers are provided.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 28 words
A shoe sole according to claim 9 or 10 wherein the or each inflatable section has a respective inflation valve in a lateral edge of the shoe sole.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 22 words
A shoe sole according to claim 11 wherein said inflation valve comprises a tube member provided with an anti-burst ring or tube.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 16 words
A sport shoe comprising a shoe sole according to any one of claims 9 to 12.
Claim 16
Independent Claim 74 words
A method of manufacturing a shoe sole having an air cushion in which an injection moulding machine (1) inflates to a hollow tubular polyurethane film which is then surrounding by a pair of mould halves (10,11), whereafter air is pumped in to swell the film between the mould halves to form a hollow air cushion (2), a lateral edge of the air cushion (2) being provided with at least one anti-burst air valve (22).
Claim 17
Independent Claim 74 words
A method of manufacturing a shoe sole having an air cushion in which an injection moulding machine (1) inflates to a hollow tubular polyurethane film which is then surrounding by a pair of mould halves (10,11), whereafter air is pumped in to swell the film between the mould halves to form a hollow air cushion (2), a lateral edge of the air cushion (2) being provided with at least one anti-burst air valve (22).
