Abstract
Abstract In a data processing system including at least two processing units (4,5) having different throughputs for performing sequential access upon a main storage unit (1), the number of elements of the main storage unit simultaneously accessed by the processing units is different (Figs. 3 and 6), or the sequence of elements accessed by one of the processing units is reversed (Figs. 7 and 8). thereby substantially improving the input/output throughput for the main storage unit.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim
100 words
A data processing system comprising: a main storage unit (1); and at least first and second processing units (5, 4) for performing sequential access upon said main storage unit, said first processing unit having a larger throughput than said second processing unit, said first processing unit (5) comprising means (501 to 511) for simultaneously accessing a first definite number of elements of said main storage unit, said second processing unit (4) comprising means (401 to 411) for simultaneously accessing a second definite number of elements of said main storage unit, said second definite number being larger than first definite number.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
55 words
A system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the ratio of said second definite number to said first definite number is larger than bc/(a - b) where a is a throughput of said first processing unit; bis a throughput of said second processing unit; and cis a busy time of said main storage unit.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
28 words
A system as set forth in claim 1, wherein said first processing unit comprises a vector unit, and said second processing unit comprises an extended storage control unit.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
52 words
A data processing system comprising: a main storage unit (1) a first processing unit (4, 5) for performing sequential access upon elements of said main storage unit in their ascending order; a second processing unit (5, 4) for performing sequential access upon elements of said main storage unit in their descending order.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
52 words
A data processing system comprising: a main storage unit (1) a first processing unit (4, 5) for performing sequential access upon elements of said main storage unit in their ascending order; a second processing unit (5, 4) for performing sequential access upon elements of said main storage unit in their descending order.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
28 words
A system as set forth in claim 4, wherein said first processing unit comprises a vector unit, and said second processing unit comprises an extended storage control unit.
