Abstract
Abstract A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus having a first tape drive mechanism (1) capable of carrying out at least reproducing transport in one direction and the reverse direction of a first magnetic tape and a second tape drive mechanism (2) capable of carrying out at least recording transport in one direction and the reverse direction of a second magnetic tape, such that during a so-called dubbing operation until reproducing transport in one direction of the first magnetic tape by the first tape drive mechanism (1) and the recording transport in one direction of the second magnetic tape by the second tape drive mechanism (2) are both ended, the tape drive mechanisms (1,2) whose operation is ended first is stopped and is not reversed, so that when the other tape drive mechanism (2,1) finishes its operation the first and second tape drive mechanism (1,2) both start the respective reproducing and recording transports in the reverse direction of the first and second magnetic tapes simultaneously.

A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus for dubbing a signal recorded on a first magnetic tape to a second magnetic rape, characterized in a first tape drive mechanism (1) for reproducing transport in a first direction and in a reverse direction of the first magnetic tape; first detecting means (3) for detecting at least one tape end of the first magnetic tape and producing a detection signal; a second tape drive mechanism (2) for recording transport in a first direction and in a reverse direction of the second magnetic tape; second detecting means (4) for detecting at least one tape end of the second magnetic tape and producing a detection signal; and control means (9) responsive to said detection signals from said first and second detecting means (3,4) for controlling said first and second tape drive mechanisms (1,2) such that until the reproducing transport in the first direction of the first magnetic tape by said first tape drive mechanism (1) and the recording transport in the first direction of the second magnetic tape by the second tape drive mechanism (2) are simultaneously ended, a tape drive mechanism (1,2) whose operation is finished first ist stopped, while when the other tape drive mechanism (2,1) finishes its operation, and thereafter for simultaneously starting reproducing and recording transports in the reverse direction of said first tape drive mechanism (1) and said second tape drive mechanism, (2), respectively.

A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in operation mode switching means (5,6) connected to said control means (9) for respectively switching said first and second tape drive mechanisms (1,2) such that when said first tape drive mechanism (1) finishes the reproducing transport in the first direction of said magnetic tape as detected by said first detecting means (3), said first tape drive mechanism (1) is started to carry out reproducing transport in the reverse direction of the first magnetic tape, while said second tape drive mechanism (2) is started so as to carry out the recording transport in the reverse direction of the second magnetic tape,- independently.
