Abstract
Abstract In a computer device having a reduced instruction set architecture, frequently occurring operations are combined into a single instruction (110) in accordance with the invention, and the single instruction executes the combined operations simultaneously. Specifically, the frequently used instructions for moving data and then branching are combined into a single instruction (110) in a computer device in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the invention for concurrent execution. As a result, both code compaction and higher execution speed are achieved with the invention.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim
72 words
A method of concurrently transferring data and branching in a computer device comprising the steps of: transferring the data of a first register to a second register; comparing the data with a set of predetermined conditions; and selecting an instruction to be executed subsequently in response to a selected condition and selected displacement; wherein said steps of transferring, comparing and selecting are performed within a single execution cycle of said computer device.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
72 words
A method of concurrently transferring data and branching in a computer device comprising the steps of: transferring the data of a first register to a second register; comparing the data with a set of predetermined conditions; and selecting an instruction to be executed subsequently in response to a selected condition and selected displacement; wherein said steps of transferring, comparing and selecting are performed within a single execution cycle of said computer device.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
20 words
The method as in claim 1, wherein said step of selecting further comprises selecting said instruction to be executed next.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
25 words
The method as in claim 1, wherein said step of selecting further comprises selecting said instruction to be executed after at least one intervening instruction.
Claim 5
Independent Claim
31 words
The method as in any one of claims 1 to 3, further comprising the step of nullifying a subsequent operation in said computer device in response to said step of comparing.
Claim 6
Independent Claim
25 words
The method as in any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein said steps are in response to a single instruction of said computer device.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
156 words
A computer device for performing the method according to any one of the preceding claims, said computer having a set of reduced instructions, comprising: an instruction (110) further comprising: (a) a first field (116) for specifying a first register whose contents are to be transferred; (b) a second field (114) for specifying a second register to which said contents are to be transferred; (c) a third field (118) for specifying a predetermined condition; and (d) a fourth field (120) for specifying a displacement; wherein operations specified by said instruction are executed within one cycle; a first means responsive to said instruction for transferring contents of said first register to said second register; a second means responsive to said instruction for providing an output indicative of satisfaction of said predetermined condition by said contents of said first register; and a third means responsive to said instruction for determining a location of an instruction to be executed subsequently.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
23 words
The computer device as in claim 6, wherein said third means is for determining a location of an instruction to be executed next.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
28 words
The computer device as in claim 6, wherein said third means is for determining a location of an instruction to be executed after at least one intervening instruction.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
63 words
The computer device as in any one of claims 6 to 8, wherein said instruction (110) further comprises a fifth field (122) for determining a nullification of an operation and said computer device further comprises a fourth means for nullifying at a subsequent cycle of said computer device an operation in response to said fifth field and said output from said second means.
