Method and apparatus for software protection

Abstract

Abstract In this method for protecting software stored in a memory from being copied, the commands and/or data are supplied on request to a microprocessor and during this process are recoded or converted. To make copying more difficult, it is provided that the type of recoding of at least one interrogated command and/or data byte is modified in dependence on at least one preceding interrogated command and/or data byte. An arrangement for protecting software stored in at least one command and/or data memory is characterised by the fact that the recoding function of the recoder can be modified for at least one command and/or data byte following at least one incoming command and/or data byte recoded in the manner intended. <IMAGE>
