Abstract

The device for measuring only extremely low frequency changing magnetic fields contains a SQUID magnetometer which has a superconducting flux transformer for inductively coupling the measurement signal into a direct current SQUID sensor. This device should also be able to detect quasi-static magnetic fields with frequencies far below 1 Hz. For this purpose, the invention provides that at least the flow transformer ( 5 ) is assigned a device for modulating the measurement signal to be coupled into the SQUID sensor ( 2 ), the modulation frequency of which lies in a frequency range characteristic of low-noise operation of the SQUID. The modulation frequencies are generally above 1 Hz, possibly even above 1 kHz.
