Abstract

Abstract A photographic camera (1) is adapted to receive a conventional film cartridge (C) for taking exposures for use in producing normal prints and a special (S) film cartridge for taking exposures for use in producing pseudo telephoto or pseudo panoramic prints made by enlarging a selected portion of a negative. The special cartridge is distinguishable physically or otherwise from a conventional cartridge to permit the special cartridge to be routed at the photofinisher to corresponding equipment for producing the pseudo format prints. The camera is capable of distinguishing between the special cartridge and a conventional one to prevent the camera from operating in a pseudo format mode (though permitting it to operate in a regular format mode) whenever a conventional cartridge is received in the camera.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 214 words
A pseudo format camera (1) comprising an objective lens (3) for exposing film in the camera, a manually operated device (20,) for selecting a pseudo format field of view reduced from the actual filed of view of the objective lens, and an encoder (59, 61, 63, 65, SW1, SW2, SW3 and SW4) which in response to operation of the manually operated device to select a pseudo format field of view encodes an exposure with indicia representative of the pseudo format field to enable the portion of a negative covered by the pseudo format field to be identified in order to produce a pseudo format print from that portion, characterized in that, a loading chamber (67) is shaped to receive a conventional cartridge (C) containing film on which exposures may be made for use in producing normal prints and to receive a distinguishable cartridge (S) containing film on which exposures may be made for use in producing pseudo format prints, and a control device (69 and 71) capable of distinguishing between a conventional cartridge (C) received in the loading chamber (67) and a distinguishable cartridge (S) received in the loading chamber prevents operation of the manual operated device (20) to select a pseudo format field of view whenever the received cartridge is a conventional one.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 214 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 83 words
A pseudo format camera (1) as set forth in claim 1, characterized in that a viewfinder (10) includes an optical device (51) which in response to operation of the manually operated device (20) to select a pseudo format field of view reduces the actual finder field of view to permit the pseudo format field to be seen in the viewfinder, and the control device (69 and 71) disables the optical device whenever a conventional cartridge (C) is received in the loading chamber (67)..
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 53 words
A pseudo format camera (1) as set forth in claim 2, wherein the control device (69 and 71) includes a stop (97 and 99) for preventing operation of the manually operated device (20) to select a pseudo format field of view whenever a conventional cartridge (C) is received in the loading chamber (67).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 89 words
A pseudo format camera (1) as set forth in claim 2, wherein the control device (69 and 71) is a bi-state switching device (69 and 71) located in the loading chamber (67.) and having one state for enabling the optical device (51) and another state for disabling the optical device, the bi-state swtiching device being in its one state whenever the cartridge in the loading chamber is a distinguishable one (S) and being in its other state whenever the cartridge in the loading chamber is a conventional one (C).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 61 words
A pseudo format camera (1), as set forth in claim 2, wherein the optical device (51) includes a masking arrangement (55 and 57) adjustable to a masking configuration corresponding to a pseudo format field of view, and the control device (69 and 71) prevents adjustment of the masking arrangement whenever a conventional cartridge (C) is received in the loading chamber (67).
