Abstract
Abstract In a complex computer system in which a resource (4) is shared by several computers (l, 2), the resource is provided therein with a memory (9) for recording the status of the resource. Each computer writes status information of the resource into the memory and also reads the status information in the memory to know the status of the resource. The memory has a record of the latest status of the resource, allowing each computer to know the latest resource status including status information revised by other computers.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim
110 words
A method of common resource status management for a computer system including a plurality of computers (l, 2) and a common resource (4) shared among said computers and having a memory (9) for recording status information of said resource, said method comprising: a first step of reading status information in said memory in advance of access to said resource by one of said computers; a second step of judging whether said resource is accessible basing on the status information read in the first step; and a third step of making said common resource accessible and revising the status information accordingly if a negative judgement has resulted in the second step.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
110 words
A method of common resource status management for a computer system including a plurality of computers (l, 2) and a common resource (4) shared among said computers and having a memory (9) for recording status information of said resource, said method comprising: a first step of reading status information in said memory in advance of access to said resource by one of said computers; a second step of judging whether said resource is accessible basing on the status information read in the first step; and a third step of making said common resource accessible and revising the status information accordingly if a negative judgement has resulted in the second step.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
49 words
A common resource status management method according to Claim l, wherein said common resource comprises exchangeable recording mediums (ll) for storing data to be processed by said computers and said memory (9) provided independently of said recording mediums, said third step comprising a step of exchanging said recording mediums.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
123 words
A common resource status management method according to Claim l, wherein said common resource comprises a plurality of recording mediums (ll), with identification information appended thereto, for storing data to be processed by said computers and drive means (l6) for mounting and operating at least one of said recording mediums, said second step comprising a step of comparing recording medium identification information obtained from the status information read in the first step with identification information of recording medium mounted on said drive means, said third step comprising a step of mounting a recording medium on said drive means and writing identification information of the mounted recording medium into said memory (9) as identification information of the recording medium mounted on said drive means.
