Abstract
Abstract A filter element for use in a filter apparatus comprises a plurality of cylindrical filter units (7) coaxially aligned end-to-end to form an integral tubular structure, a top end cap (1) and a bottom end cap (10) on the upper opening and the lower opening, respectively, of said tubular structure, and a cylindrical displacement member (13) disposed coaxially within the tubular structure with a small clearance therebetween.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
134 words
A filter element (2) for a filter apparatus, which element (2) has a plurality of hollow cylindrical filter units (7) coaxially stacked to form a unitary tubular structure which is firmly held at its ends between and by a top end cap (11) and a bottom end cap (10) having a filtrate drain aperture, said filter units (7) functioning to filter a fluid passed through the walls thereof from the outside to the interior thereof to become a filtrate, characterized in that a cylindrical displacement member (13) is disposed coaxially within said tubular structure with a small clearance left therebetween thereby to reduce the volume of said filtrate within the tubular structure and, being connected to said top and bottom end caps (11, 10), functions also to couple and pull together said end caps.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
51 words
A filter element for use in a filter apparatus as set forth in claim 1 in which the ratio of the cross sectional area of the displacement member (13) to the cross sectional area of the interior space of the tubular structure is in the range of from 0.65:1 to 0.85:1.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
30 words
A filter element for use in a filter apparatus as set forth in claim 1 in which the displacement member (13) - comprises a hermetically enclosed howllow cylindrical body (14).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
29 words
A filter element for use in a filter apparatus as set forth in claim 1 in which the displacement member (13) has a generally inverted conical bottom portion (14A).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
45 words
A filter element for use in a filter apparatus as set forth in claim 4 in which the generally inverted conical bottom portion is provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending support legs (16) fixed thereto and integrally fixed to the bottom end cap (10).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
76 words
A filter element for use in a filter apparatus as set forth in claim 5 in which the displacement member has, at the upper end thereof, a top end lid (15) provided integrally with a threaded rod (18) which extends longitudinally through said aperture of the top end cap, a nut being screwed thereonto and wherein the displacement member (13) is fixed within the tubular structure by the nut tightly screwed onto the threaded rod (18).
