Claim 1
Independent Claim
212 words
An apparatus for detecting defects on a bottle mouth (3) with a screw thread comprising an annular illuminator (1,30) disposed above a bottle (2) to be detected and concentric with the axis thereof for shining the entire periphery of the bottle mouth (3), characterized in that (a) reflecting means (5,26) having a reflecting inner peripheral surface (5a,26a), in the form of a cone with its base uppermost and truncated parallel to the base, is arranged above the annular illuminator (1,3) for reflecting light rays of the bottle mouth (3) onto a CCD camera (6) in such a manner that light rays having different directions and being emitted from different positions in different planes from the outer and inner surfaces of the bottle mouth (3) are reflected onto the CCD camera from the reflecting inner peripheral surface (5a,26a) such as to form planar images which are concentric with each other; (b) said CCD camera (6) acting as a planar photoelectric converter is disposed above the reflecting means (5) and is concentric with the axis thereof, this CCD camera converting the planar images into electric signals corresponding to the repective planar images; and (c) an operation unit (7) operating on the electrical signals to judges the existence of defects on the bottle mouth (3).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
46 words
An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the annular illuminator (30) has a plurality of light sources (LED) arranged in slits (31 b) of an annular body (31a) for emitting light beams and wherein the slits (31b) are directed obliquely downward within the annular body (31a).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
20 words
An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the light sources are directed in a tangential direction of a bottle mouth.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
31 words
An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the annular illuminator has an annular light source (1) to emit uniformly diffused light on the entire peripheral surface of a bottle mouth (3).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
32 words
An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the reflecting means (26) is a conical prism for reflecting light beams in direction of the CCD camera acting as a planar photoelectric converter (6).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
147 words
An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the operation unit (7) comprises a data memory (17) for memorizing data of brightness level inputted from the CCD camera acting as a planar photoelectric converter (6) in respective addresses corresponding to each portion of the bottle mouth (3), an address circuit (18) for reading out data memorized in the data memory, the data respectively the corresponding picture elements are read out along address lines, extending from the center of the memorized data in radial direction and having an angular interval to each other, a subtraction circuit (34) for substracting the signals of picture elements in the nth positions as counted from the center of an address line, respectively of one of the other address lines, and a comparison circuit (31) for comparing data obtained by the subtraction circuit (34) with a reference inputted from a reference value memory (32).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
252 words
An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the annular illuminator comprises an annular light source for emitting diffused light for mainly detecting effects on the screw thread of the bottle mouth, and wherein the operation unit (7) comprises a data memory (17) for memorizing data of brightness level inputted from the CCD camera acting as a planar photoelectric converter (6) in respective addresses corresponding to each portion of the bottle mouth (3), an addresss circuit (44) for reading out data memorized in the data memory, the data repectively picture elements being read out along address lines extending from the center of the memorized data in radial direction and having an angular interval to each other, a comparison circuit (47) for comparing data obtained by the data memory with a reference value inputted from a reference value memory (41), a coordinate transformation circuit (43) for converting binary digital signals obtained from the comparison circuit (42) into digital binary signals in a rectangular coordinate system, in which the ordinate axis angular position and the abscissa axis indicate distance from a datum plane, a D/A converter (45) to convert the output digital binary signals of the circuit (43) into analog images, a screw line detecting circuit (46) detecting the analog images having a plurality of lines (4C1, 4C2) along detecting lines of the screw thread (4), and a further comparison circuit (47) for comparing a pattern detected by the screw line detecting circuit (46) with a reference pattern inputted by a reference pattern circuit (48).
