Abstract

The ballast (10a) is provided with a memory (18) which contains an indication of the nominal current of the associated fluorescent lamp. This information is fed to a multiplier (19) which also receives a control signal from a control circuit (20). The output signal of the multiplier (19) is used to generate a reference voltage (Uref) which controls the lamp current of the ballast. Several ballasts (10a, 10b) which are equipped with lamps of different wattages can be controlled by a common control circuit (20), each of the connected lamps being operated with a current which corresponds to a certain percentage ratio of the nominal current.
