Abstract In a permanent-magnet excited commutator machine, in particular a commutator motor, in order to achieve a series-wound characteristic of the commutator machine each second commutator brush (16) in the sequence of the commutator brushes (16) is displaced such that the offset angle ( alpha ) between successive commutator brushes (16) is alternately less than and greater than the pole pitch, or vice versa (Fig. 2). <IMAGE>
