Claim 1
Independent Claim
123 words
A data management mechanism in a processor system having a plurality of processes distributed about the processor system requesting work by use of a work request and said processes serving work, said work requests referencing data associated therewith stored in storage areas of the processor, characterized in that it comprises descriptor element means coupled to each work request for identifying the location and length of data associated with each work request; and transfer means coupled between the processes for transferring work requests between processes and transferring the data associated therewith independently of the work requests as controlled by the processes serving the work such that only processes requiring data to perform work requests receive the data in storage areas accessible to the processes.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
22 words
The data management mechanism of Claim 1 characterized in that the data comprises segments residing in one or more areas of storage.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
22 words
The data management mechanism of Claim 2 characterized in that the segments are stored in storage areas in more than one processor.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
34 words
The data management mechanism of any of Claims 1-3 characterized in that the descriptor element further comprises a set of processor addresses, memory addresses and length pairs corresponding to the locations of the data.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
16 words
The data management mechanism of Claims 2-4 characterized each segment is identified by a descriptor element.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
34 words
The data management mechanism any of Claims 1-5 characterized in that work requests contain a data descriptor comprising a plurality of descriptor elements which define all of the data associated with the work request.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
41 words
The data management mechanism of Claim 6 characterized in that a further work request is generated by a process executing a first work request, the further work request comprising a data descriptor containing selected descriptor elements from the first work request.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
28 words
The data management mechanism of Claim 7 characterized in that the process generating the further work request does not receive the data described by the first work request.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
62 words
The data management mechanism any of Claims 3-8 characterized in that the descriptor element means comprises: local descriptor elements which describe the location and length of segments in areas of storage addressable by a process; and reference descriptor elements which describe a request, an offset from the beginning of data referenced in the request, and the length of a segment of data.
