Abstract
Abstract An easy-to-use technique for specifying measurements of a document to be printed uses a pointing method, such as a cursor which is moved around a display screen by means of a pointing device having a select button. The pointing cursor is moved to each desired location in a predetermined sequence, and the select button is pressed. The values of the measurements so selected are calculated based on the relative position of the pointing cursor at the time the select button is pressed.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim
50 words
A method of specifying the measurements of objects in a document to be printed comprising the steps of: pointing to the desired location of the objects on a display screen; and calculating the value of each location in a predetermined sequence according to the relative positions of the pointed locations.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
50 words
A method of specifying the measurements of objects in a document to be printed comprising the steps of: pointing to the desired location of the objects on a display screen; and calculating the value of each location in a predetermined sequence according to the relative positions of the pointed locations.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
47 words
The method of specifying measurements as recited in Claim 1 wherein the step of pointing is performed by the steps of: displaying a pointing cursor on a display screen; moving said pointing cursor on said display screen by means of a pointing device having a select button.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
68 words
The method of specifying measurements as recited in Claim 2 further comprising the steps of: continuously calculating an updated value corresponding to the current position of said pointing cursor as it is moved by said pointing device, said last updated value being said calculated value of a pointed location in said predetermined sequence; and continuously displaying the updated value corresponding to the current position of said pointing cursor.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
35 words
The method as recited in Claim 1 wherein left and right margins are two of the measurements specified and the step of calculating is performed for left and right margins based on a common reference.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
28 words
The method as recited in Claim 3 wherein the common reference is the left edge of a sheet of paper on which the document is to be printed.
