Abstract

A system for detecting the presence of a pure signal in a discrete noisy signal measured at an average constant noise rate with a probability of false detection less than a predetermined false detection rate. Detection consists in measuring a count rate N and in comparing the probability of false detection, associated with this count rate and with the estimated average noise rate M, with a predetermined false detection rate. A pure signal is detected if this probability is lower than this rate. The comparison can use tabulated values. Application in particular the detection of corpuscular radiation.
