Abstract

Abstract An improved method for the production of endosseous implants which comprises thermally spraying a hydroxyapatite-containing powder onto the surface of a metallic core material, and treating the resultant product with an aqueous solution which does substantially not dissolve the hydroxyapatite but can dissolve calcium oxide and thereby dissolving out alkaline components. The endosseous implants of this invention show excellent mechanical properties and excellent affinity to the living body without hematolysis, and hence, are useful for the treatment or recovery of defective or lost bones, joints and tooth roots.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 55 words
A method for the production of endosseous implants comprising thermally spraying a hydroxyapatite-containing powder onto the surface of a metallic core material, and treating the thermally sprayed product with an aqueous solution which does substantially not dissolve the hydroxyapatite but does dissolve calcium oxide whereby the alkaline components are dissolved out from the said product.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 55 words
A method for the production of endosseous implants comprising thermally spraying a hydroxyapatite-containing powder onto the surface of a metallic core material, and treating the thermally sprayed product with an aqueous solution which does substantially not dissolve the hydroxyapatite but does dissolve calcium oxide whereby the alkaline components are dissolved out from the said product.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
The method according to claim 1, wherein the aqueous solution is an aqueous solution comprising ammonium chloride, magnesium chloride, ammonium nitrate or magnesium nitrate.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 20 words
The method according to claim 1, wherein the aqueous solution is an aqueous solution comprising sucrose, glucose, fructose or arabinose.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 19 words
The method according to claim 1, wherein the aqueous solution is an aqueous solution of ethylene glycol and/or glycerol.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 19 words
The method according to claim 1, wherein the aqueous solution is an aqueous solution of ammonium chloride and sucrose.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 13 words
The method according to claim 1, wherein the thermal spraying is plasma spraying.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 23 words
The method according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the core material is titanium, a titanium alloy, or a cobalt-chromium alloy.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 31 words
The method according to claim 7, wherein the surface of the metallic core material has been treated to make the surface rough to provide better adhesion for the thermally sprayed material.
Claim 10
Independent Claim 25 words
The method according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the treatment with the aqueous solution is at a temperature of 20 to 80°C.
