Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim
202 words
An article comprising: a substrate comprising a display portion(5) providing a first visible information pattern; and on the substrate, a reflection hologram (1) whose holographic image provides a second visible information pattern, and said hologram comprises a layer (2) having a holographic image forming surface relief (3) such that the second information pattern of the holographic image is visible to the naked eye when the hologram is illuminated within the angle range in which reproduction of the hologram is possible, and the layer (2) is at least partly coated with a reflection-enhancing layer (4), characterised in that the relief layer (2) is a transparent layer at least partly coated with the reflection-enhancing layer (4) which is a thin transparent layer of a resin or an inorganic compound and has a thickness capable of reproducing the surface relief of the transparent relief layer (2), the difference between the refractive index n₁ of the transparent relief layer (2) and the refractive index n₂ of the transparent reflection-enhancing layer (4) being not less than 0.1, and the transparent relief and reflection-enhancing layers (2,4) are disposed over the display portion (5) so that the first information pattern is visible to the naked eye through the hologram.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
13 words
An article as claimed in Claim 1, wherein n₂ - n₁ ≧ 1.0.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
21 words
A transparent hologram as claimed in Claim 1 or 2, wherein the relief layer (2) and/or reflection-enhancing layer (4) is coloured.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
24 words
An article as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 3, wherein a protective layer (6) is further formed on the reflection hologram.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
26 words
An article as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 4, wherein a fragile layer (35) is disposed between said reflection hologram and said substrate.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
21 words
An article as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 5 wherein said substrate is a card, watch or document.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
63 words
An article as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 6, wherein said reflection-enhancing layer comprises a thin film of an inorganic compound selected from SiO, In₂O₃, Y₂O₃, TiO, ThO₂, Si₂O₃, PbF₂, Cd₂O₃, La₂O₃, MgO, Al₂O₃, LaF₃, CaO·SiO₂, CeF₃ NdF₃, SiO₂, SiO₃, ThF₄, Sb₂S₃, Fe₂O₃, PbO, CdS, Bi₂O₃, TiO₂, PbCl₂, CeO₂, Ta₂O₅, ZnS, ZnO, CdO, Nd₂O₃, Sb₂O₃, ZrO₂, WO₃, Pr₆O₁₁, HfO₂, TlCl.
