Abstract

System for suppressing noise and its variations for detecting a pure signal in a measured noisy discrete signal. The system measures a count rate N2 in a signal channel and a count rate N3 in a reference channel, evaluates the value λE of the ratio λ between the average noise rates in said channels, and evaluates the information provided by ( N2, N3, λE), or the probability of associated false detection, by comparison with at least one information threshold Im, each associated with a predetermined false detection rate. The comparison can be made indirectly on a function of this probability and can use tabulated values. Application in particular to the detection of corpuscular radiation.
