Abstract

Abstract A wall, floor of ceiling heater comprises a plurality of self regulating, preferably PTC conductive polymer, heater elements (50) each of which is connected to two or more connection elements (53, 54). The elements are held by a support (55). In a preferred embodiment the heater elements (50) are positioned parallel to each other, and perpendicular to the connection elements (53, 54). The support (55) is preferably made from a rigid material which is hinged to allow the heater to be folded or rolled for easy transport.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 59 words
A wall, floor or ceiling heater, the heater having the form of a sheet and comprising a plurality of elongate self-regulating electrical heater elements, each of which is connected to at least two connection elements, and a support to hold the heater elements and the connection elements in a substantially fixed spatial relationship in the plane of the sheet.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 59 words
A wall, floor or ceiling heater, the heater having the form of a sheet and comprising a plurality of elongate self-regulating electrical heater elements, each of which is connected to at least two connection elements, and a support to hold the heater elements and the connection elements in a substantially fixed spatial relationship in the plane of the sheet.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 39 words
A heater as claimed in claim 1, wherein each heater element is a parallel circuit heater, comprising a conductive polymer composition which exhibits PTC behaviour, and two or more electrodes which are in electrical contact with said PTC composition.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 55 words
A heater as claimed in claim 2, wherein the connections between the electrodes of at least one of the heater elements and the respective connection elements are at the same end of the said heater element, preferably such that the connection elements define the backbone of the comb, and the heater elements define the teeth.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 35 words
A heater as claimed in claim 2, wherein the connections between the electrodes of at least one of the heater elements and the respective connection elements are at opposite ends of the said heater elements.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 21 words
A heater as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein adjacent heater elements are spaced apart along their length.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 53 words
A heater as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the support comprises (a) a sheet of material, having a principal surface on which the heater elements are supported, or (b) a laminate of two sheets of material, the heater elements being sandwiched between the sheets, which are preferably adhered together.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 35 words
A heater as claimed in claim 5 or 6, wherein the support comprises spacers positioned between the heater elements, the spacers being dimensioned to ensure that the principal surfaces of the heater are substantially even.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 24 words
A heater as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, which is sufficiently flexible to allow it to be formed into a roll.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 29 words
A heater as claimed in claim 8, wherein the support comprises abutting sheets or strips of a relatively inflexible material, the sheets or strips being hinged along abutting edges.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 39 words
A heater as claimed in any one of the preceding claims wherein the support has been extruded around the connection elements, and preferably has a thinned region which can act as a hinge to permit flexing of the heater.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 19 words
A heater as claimed in claim 10, wherein the connection elements are kinked or bent at the thinned region.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 22 words
A heater as claimed in any of the preceding claims wherein the heater element is provided with a sheet metal cover plate.
