Abstract

Abstract In a machine tanslation system, a translated-sentence possibility corresponding to an input original sentence is obtained by a translation processing section (2, 3, 4) with reference to a dictionary (5), and is displayed to be divided by a division display control section (6a) into processing units in the translation processing section (2, 3, 4). When some portions of the original sentence have other translated-word possibilities in addition to the displayed translated-word possibilities, display control is performed by an identifying display control section (6b) so that the portions having other translated-word possibilities can be distinguished from portions having no such other translated-word possibilities and that classes of portions having the other translated-word possibilities are identified. Classes of the other translated-word possibilities are displayed in accordance with a predetermined priority order.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 211 words
A machine translation system in which translation processing is performed based on translated-word possibilities and translation data associated therewith, corresponding to translation processing units of an input original sentence, obtained with reference to a dictionary (5) so as to produce a translated sentence corresponding to the original sentence, characterized by comprising: display means (6) for displaying the translated-sentence possibility produced by the translation processing; division display control means (6a), operated in response to the translation processing, for controlling said display means (6) so that the translated-sentence possibility is divided into the translation processing units in the translation processing means and is displayed on said display means (6); identifying display means (6b), operated in response to the translation processing, for controlling said display means (6) in such a manner that, if portions of the original sentence have other translated-word possibilities in addition to the translated-word possibilities displayed on said display means (6), the translated-sentence possibility is displayed on said display means (6) so that positions of the portions having the other translated-word possibilities in the displayed translated-sentence possibility and classes of the other translated-word possibilities are identified; and selection means (1, 4) to enable an operator to select an appropriate translated-word possibility while displaying the other translated-word possibilities on said display means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 211 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 41 words
A system according to claim 1, characterized in that the classes of the other translated-word possibilities, which are identified and displayed by said identifying display control means (6b), include selection of meanings, selection of modifications, and selection of parts of speech.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 43 words
A system according to claim 1, characterized in that said identifying display control means is means (6b) for controlling display so that the other translated-word possibilities are displayed with display attributes which differ in accordance with the classes of the other translated-word possibilities.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 46 words
A system according to claim 1, characterized in that said identifying display control means is means (6b) for controlling display so that the classes of the other translated-word possibilities are displayed with identification symbols which differ in accordance with the classes of the other translated-word possibilities.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 47 words
A system according to claim 1, characterized in that said identifying display control means is means (6b) for performing identifying display of the classes of the other translated-word possibilities in translation processing units of the translated-sentence possibility which is divisionally displayed by said divisional display control means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 54 words
A system according to claim 1, characterized in that said identifying display control means is means (6b) for controlling display so that, when a plurality of classes of the other translated-word possibilities must be identified, at least some of the classes are selectively identified and displayed in accordance with a priority of the classes.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 53 words
A system according to claim 1, characterized in that said identifying display control means is means (6b) for controlling display so that, when a plurality of classes of the other translated-word possibilities must be identified and displayed, the identification factors of at least some of the plurality of classes are displayed to overlap.
