Abstract

Abstract An electroencephalographic (EEG) cap for a human head for use in an evoked potential autorefractometry system which includes an adjustable headband having relatively rigid straps crossing over EEG measurement regions. Inserted through the straps are self-preparing electrodes which are connected to shielded cables. The self-preparing electrodes penetrates a dead skin layer without causing bleeding during positioning of the cap and do not require a previously prepared electrode positioning site. An electrolyte solution can be applied to the electrodes and the regions for measurement after the cap is in position by an electrolyte solution pump system. The entire cap can be shielded by a metal shield dome and held in place by a chin strap.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 129 words
An electroencephalographic (EEG) cap for a human head for use in an evoked potential autorefractometry system comprising an adjustable headband having straps rigidly fixed with respect to each other and passing over measurement regions of the head where EEG measurements are to be made, characterized by a plurality of self-preparing electrodes attached to the straps in positions to contact the measurement regions using an electrode tip; an electrically shielded cable operatively connected to each of said self-preparing electrodes to transmit said EEG measurements from said measurement regions; an electrolyte solution pump, attached to said adjustable headband, for pumping an electrolyte solution; and tubes, coupled to the electrolyte solution pump and positioned adjacent to the electrode tips, for applying the electrolyte solution to the measurement regions and the electrode tip.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 129 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 43 words
A cap as recited in claim 1 further characterized by said self-preparing electrodes having an internal spring operatively connected to said electrode tip to force said tip into contact with said measurement region by penetrating a caratinaceous layer of skin without causing bleeding.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 54 words
A cap as recited in claim 1 further characterized by a shield dome, attached to said adjustable headband for shielding said self-preparing electrodes, said shielded cable and the head, said shield dome having weight sufficient to overcome said spring force of said self-preparing electrodes such that the electrodes are held against said measurement regions.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 17 words
A cap as recited in claim 1 further comprising a chin strap attached to said adjustable headband.
