Abstract

Abstract Apparatus for reproducing a digital signal includes a rotary head (11 A, 11 B) that accurately reproduces the digital signal, which is recorded on a tape (14), even when the tape runs at high speed. Transitions of a reproduced signal are detected (32), intervals corresponding to the transitions are counted (33) on the basis of a predetermined reference signal, and the rotation of the rotary head ( 11 A, 11 B) is controlled in response to the counted value so that the relative speed between the rotary heads (11 A, 11 B) and the tape (14) is held constant, notwithstanding changes in the absolute speed of the tape, as in a fast-forward mode.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 89 words
Apparatus for reproducing a digital signal, the apparatus comprising: rotary head means (11A,11B) for reproducing a digital signal which is recorded on a tape (14) and which exhibits multiple transitions; detecting means (32) for detecting said transitions; counting means (33) for accumulating a count proportional to an interval corresponding to said detected transitions; and control means for controlling the rotation of the rotary head means (11A,11B) in response to said count so that the relative speed between the rotary head means (11A,11B) and the tape (14) is made constant.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 89 words
Apparatus for reproducing a digital signal, the apparatus comprising: rotary head means (11A,11B) for reproducing a digital signal which is recorded on a tape (14) and which exhibits multiple transitions; detecting means (32) for detecting said transitions; counting means (33) for accumulating a count proportional to an interval corresponding to said detected transitions; and control means for controlling the rotation of the rotary head means (11A,11B) in response to said count so that the relative speed between the rotary head means (11A,11B) and the tape (14) is made constant.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 106 words
Apparatus according to claim 1, in which a motor (44) is provided for driving the rotary head means (11A,11B), and in which said control means includes first holding means (35) for holding a maximum value of said count during a predetermined period, second holding means (36) for holding a minimum value of said maximum value during every period longer than said predetermined period and producing an output corresponding thereto, and comparing means (39) for comparing said output with a reference value (40), the comparing means (39) being operative to generate a compared output that is employed in use to control the speed of the motor (44).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
Apparatus according to claim 2, in which said maximum value in the first holding means (35) corresponds to a synchronising signal of a reproduced digital signal.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 57 words
Apparatus according to claim 2 or claim 3, in which said control means comprises holding pulse generating means (56,57,58,59) for generating a holding pulse (S17) in response to the length of a transition interval of said reproduced digital signal and for supplying the holding pulse (S17) to the first holding means (35) for controlling the operation thereof.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 55 words
Apparatus according to claim 4, in which the holding pulse generating means includes inhibiting means (57) for inhibiting generation of the holding pulse (S17) during a predetermined period from a given transition of said reproduced digital signal when the length of the transition interval of said reproduced digital signal is short of a predetermined value.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 55 words
Apparatus according to claim 4 or claim 5, in which the holding pulse generating means includes means (60) for causing generation of the holding pulse (S17) at a predetermined period from a given transition of said reproduced digital signal when the length of the transition interval of said reproduced digital signal exceeds a predetermined value.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 25 words
Apparatus according to any one of the preceding claims, in which the detecting means includes frequency dividing means (31) for dividing said reproduced digital signal.
