Abstract

Abstract The present invention relates to a device for permanent establishment of a connection between the abdominal cavity (21) or and organ located in the abdominal cavity and the exterior of the body for instance for chronic peritoneal dialysis or other forms of treatment in respect of the abdominal cavity. The device is made of commercially-pure titanium or at least coated with titanium on the surfaces coming into direct contact with abdominal wall tissue. The healing-in of the device takes place preferably in two stages so that it during an unloaded healing phase is enabled to heal into the connective tissue (19) of the abdomen and in the limitation of the abdominal cavity, the peritoneum (20) and so that only thereafter is the skin pathway made and the device taken into use. The device therefore comprises a first portion (1, 1', 2), the anchorage portion, arranged to be implanted into the connective tissue (19) of the abdomen at the first operation, a covering screw (8) with plug (9) for blocking of the pathway opening in the anchorage portion during the healing phase and a skin passage in the form of a titanium tube (10) for connection to the anchorage portion (1, 1', 2) at the second operation after prior removal of the covering screw (8) with plug (9).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 78 words
A device to establish a permanent connection between the abdominal cavity or an organ located in the abdominal cavity and the exterior of the body for instance for chronic peritoneal dialysis or other forms of treatment relating to access to the abdominal cavity, or to organs located in it or in its vicinity, characterized in that it is made of commercially pure titanium or at least coated with titanium on the surfaces coming into direct contact with tissue.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 78 words
A device to establish a permanent connection between the abdominal cavity or an organ located in the abdominal cavity and the exterior of the body for instance for chronic peritoneal dialysis or other forms of treatment relating to access to the abdominal cavity, or to organs located in it or in its vicinity, characterized in that it is made of commercially pure titanium or at least coated with titanium on the surfaces coming into direct contact with tissue.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 82 words
A device as claimed in Claim 1, characterized in that it comprises a first portion (1, 1', 2) arranged to be implanted in the connective tissue of the abdomen at a first operation so that it remains in an unloaded condition during the healing phase during which the device is not taken into use and a second portion (10), the skin-penetration part, arranged to be connected to the first portion (1, 1', 2) at a second operation after the said healing phase.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 53 words
A device as claimed in Claim 2, characterized in that the first portion comprises one or several plates or flanges (1, 1') intended to form the healing surface against the surrounding tissue in the abdominal cavity and a pathway (2) to the abdominal cavity united with the flange or flanges (1, 1') respectively.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 43 words
A device as claimed in Claim 3, characterized in that the flanges (1, 1') are provided with a central pathway opening (3) through which a catheter can be introduced in the flange and on through the tube (2) and into the abdominal cavity.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 33 words
A device as claimed in claim 3, characterized in that the flanges (1, 1') are also provided with a plurality of through-going apertures (4) distributed across their surface to improve the anchorage stability.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 54 words
A device as claimed in claim 2, characterized in that a covering screw (8) with a cylindrical plug (9) of silicone rubber or similar material for blocking of the pathway opening (2) and arranged to be connected to the first portion (1, 1') at the first operation and removed only at the second operation.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 31 words
A device as claimed in claims 4 and 6, characterized in that the pathway opening (3) is provided with an internal screw thread (5) for attachment of the covering screw (8).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 31 words
A device as claimed in claim 2, characterized in that the second portion comprises a titanium tube (10) which forms a passage tube to the exterior of the body (skin passage).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 38 words
A device as claimed in claim 8, characterized in that the titanium tube (10) is provided with an external screw thread (11) for screwing on the tube in the pathway opening (3) in the first portion (1, 1').
