Device for the catalytic conversion of gases
Abstract
For the catalytic conversion of reactive gases, in which the gas temperature is normally only moderately increased by the exothermic reaction and is usually considerably below the "light-off temperature" of the reaction, a fixed bed catalyst is proposed, which is accommodated together with a heat exchanger in a housing. Heat exchangers and catalyst mass are traversed by channels or housed in chambers through which the (cold) reactive gas and the (warm) converted gas flow periodically. Heat exchanger and catalyst mass are rotatable against the gas inlet; the gas flow is redirected within the vessel. The device has no valves or flaps that could affect the gas flow when switching. The device and the method are particularly suitable for very large gas throughput if the reactive gas contains only small amounts of reactive constituents (up to the ppm range).
