Abstract

Abstract 5-Chlor-3-isothiazolones are stabilized against chemical decomposition in non-aqueous solution using organic hydroxy solvent and, optionally, stabilization salt when the contents of the components are 0.5 to 10% isothiazolone, 89 to 99.5% hydroxy solvent and 0 to 1 % stabilization salt, the percentages being by weight of the three stated components, the hydroxy solvent comprising one or more solvents of the formulae: wherein R and R' are hydrogen or lower alkyl, X is -CH 2 OCH 2 -or -(CH 2 ) n - wherein n is an integer of 1 to 4 and y is an integer of 1 to 150. These compositions exhibit biocidal and preservative properties.
