Abstract
Abstract A flexible, lightweight optical fibre member (14) containing one or more optical fibres (22, 32) is suited for use as an optical transmission line. The optical fibre member (14) is propellable along a tubular pathway (12), thereby to provide an optical communications route, by employing the fluid drag of air, or another suitable gas, passed over the optical fibre member (14) at a high average relative flow velocity.

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim
58 words
An optical fibre member (14) comprising one or more optical fibres (22,32) contained in an outer envelope (24,34), characterised in that said fibre member (14) is sufficiently lightweight and flexible to be propellable along a tubular pathway (12) by fluid drag of a gaseous medium passing over the fibre member (14) at a high average relative flow velocity.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
18 words
An optical fibre member (14) according to claim 1 having a weight of not more than 3.5 gm/m.
