Abstract

Abstract A printer in which a daisy wheel (20) on a carriage (8) is caused, by a hammer actuating mechanism (154), to impact againt a printing sheet fed by a sheet feed mechanism (159), so that the sheet is printed with use of a ribbon interposed between the sheet and the wheel. The hammer actuating mechanism, a printing ribbon feed mechanism (155), a correction ribbon feed mechanism (156), and a correction ribbon lift mechanism (157) constituting a first driven section, and the sheet feed mechanism constituting a second driven section, are connected to a single DC motor by means of clutch means of clutch means (160, 162, 163). In driving the first driven section, the motor is supplied with a predetermined supply voltage from an external power source. In driving the second driven section, the motor is supplied with a supply voltage chopped by chopping means (143) so that the second driven section is driven with a smaller driving force and at a lower rotating speed than the first driven section is.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 208 words
A printer which comprises printing means (20, 24) opposed to a printing medium (P) to perform printing thereon, characterized by further comprising: a first driven section (154, 155, 156, 157) driven under a predetermined rotational load and at a predetermined rotating speed; a second driven section (150) driven under a smaller rotational load and at a lower rotating speed than the first driven section is; a single DC motor (81) supplied with a predetermined supply voltage; a transmission mechanism (169, 161, 162, 163) for selectively connecting the motor to the first and second driven sections, thereby transmitting the driving force of the motor to the first and second driven sections; chopping means (143) selectively connected to the motor to change the supply voltage to the motor, thereby reducing the driving force and rotating speed of the motor; and control means (140) for applying the predetermined supply voltage to the motor without connecting the chopping means to the motor when the motor is connected to the first driven section by means of the transmission mechanism, and for connecting the chopping means to the motor to apply a chopped supply voltage to the motor when the motor is connected to the second driven section by means of the transmission mechanism.
Claim 2
