Abstract

Abstract The invention relates to a drive mechanism for connecting an input shaft (10) to an output shaft (30) and superimposing on the output shaft (30) a variable oscillatory motion determined by the position of a reaction member (42). The drive mechanism comprises an input disc (18) fast in rotation with the input shaft (10), and defining a slideway (22) transverse to the axis of the input shaft (10). A sliding member (24) is made to slide along the slideway (22) by a block (42) journalled within a pivotable yoke (48), the block (42) being itself slidable in a second slideway (40) defined by the sliding member (24). A crank pin (32) fixed to the output shaft (30) is connected slidably to the sliding member (24) such that as the sliding member (24) slides along the slideway (22), the phase of the output shaft (30), is varied with respect of the phase of the input shaft (10). A second similar mechanism drives a weight (51) with opposite phase in order to cancel out the reaction torque on the input shaft (10).

Claim 1
Independent Claim 181 words
A drive mechanism for connecting an input shaft (10) to an output shaft (30) and superimposing on the output shaft (30) a variable oscillatory motion determined by the position of a reaction member (42), characterised by means (18) fast in rotation with one of the input and output shafts (10) defining a slideway (22) transverse to the axis of said one of the shafts (10), a sliding member (24) slidable along said slideway (22), means (42, 48) for sliding the sliding member (24) along the slideway (22) in synchromism with the rotation of the input shaft (10), the amplitude of the sliding movement being dependent upon the position of the reaction member (42), the oscillation of the sliding member (24) being symmetrical about a central position, and a crank pin (32) fixed to the other (30) of said input and output shafts and connected slidably to the said sliding member (24) whereby as the sliding member (24) slides along the slideway (22), the phase of the output shaft (30) is varied with respect of the phase of the input shaft (10).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 181 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 51 words
A drive mechanism as claimed in claim 1, wherein the means (42, 48) for oscillating the sliding member (24) within the slideway (22) comprises a second slideway (40) formed in the sliding member (24) transverse to the first slideway (22) along which second slideway (40) the reaction member (42) is slidable.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 37 words
A drive mechanism as claimed in claim 2, wherein the reaction member (42) comprises a bearing rotatable within a stationary yoke (48) and connected to a block (42) which is slidable within the said second slideway (40).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 36 words
A drive mechanism as claimed in claim 2, wherein the reaction member (42) is a non rotatable cylinder the surface of which rolls along surfaces defining said second slideway, as the input and output shafts rotate.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 38 words
A drive mechanism as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein a balance weight (51) is incorporated and driven in opposite phase with the oscillations superimposed on the output shaft (30) so as to cancel out the reaction torque.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 52 words
A drive mechanism as claimed in claim 5, wherein the balance weight (51) is provided with a crank pin (132') engaging in the same sliding member (124) as the said other shaft but coupled to a slot (136') arranged diametrically opposite the slot (136) receiving the crank (132) of the other shaft.
